Welcome to Scraps of My Geek Life!
Do you often feel overwhelmed by new gadgets? Do you feel like the technology has taken over your life? Long for the simplistic days of the past? Then you are in the right place!
Do you want to live a balanced tech life?
My name is Michele McGraw and I am the founder of Scraps of My Geek Life. I am a 40-something geek trying to balance 4 kids, a blog, technology, running, eating right and still find time for some digital scrapbooking.
Why This Blog?
I created this blog to share my passion for technology with you. Technology gets blamed for everything these days. I’m a firm believer that if you control the technology, instead of the technology controlling you, it can be a big help in your life.
I will show you how to use technology to enhance your life.
My Passion for Technology
My passion for technology goes way back to my grandfather. He had a computer in his house when it wasn’t cool for anyone over 60 to have a computer. I remember my dad and grandfather figuring out how to talk to each other using the computers. And this was before the internet was a thing.
My parents were always buying the latest technology. We had a huge VCR before Blockbuster existed.
My first big purchase after college was a computer. It was shortly after buying that computer that I met my husband on AOL in the Romance Connection Chatroom. That was the beginning of my love for the internet.
With each life change, hobby and interest I’ve had throughout the years (from raising a child with ADHD and Epilepsy, taking pictures, running, losing weight, digital scrapbooking, blogging to studying to become a personal fitness trainer), the technology and the internet have always been my source of information and at times, a true comfort.
Knowing that you’re not alone and discovering women just like me around the country and the world with the same interests, trials and tribulations is uplifting.
My Family
I’ve been married for 22 years and we have 4 kids ages 20, 17, 13 and 12. That is a lot of teens and tweens in this house using a lot of technology.
I have been through
- 4 first phones,
- 2 drivers (and 2 to go),
- 2 college application process,
- 1 high school graduation,
- 4 kids with phones at school,
- 4 kids using laptops at school,
- Teaching 4 kids how dangerous the internet can be,
- And more tech mistakes than I can count.
In other words, this family has been through a LOT with technology. This has given me a unique perspective I will share with you through my blog posts, newsletters, reviews and social media.
