Then Nursing School Happened

When I got the urge to write, I came back to my blog to see when I last wrote a post. TWO YEARS AGO! I couldn’t believe it. Then I thought about what had gone on in the last two years and my absence made sense. So, let me explain how nursing school happened, what I’ve been doing, and where this blog is going.

My plans originally were to write about Fibromyalgia and share my journey of getting my health back. I did write plenty of posts, but never finished researching the medical part, so none of the posts were published. Over the summer, I had a thought swirling in my head. It was something that over the years, I’ve regretted, but was I too old to now pursue?

Let’s go back to my childhood for a moment, and I’ll get back to my thoughts in the next paragraph. My grandmother had MS and as a child, I always told her I was going to become a nurse and cure MS for her. I always wanted to be a nurse, but then when I neared high school and all my tests said I should go into business and my guidance counselors said if I hated biology, I should not be a nurse, I listened. They steered me away from what I really wanted to do. I graduated from college with a bachelor’s in Business Marketing. Then I went on to work and run my own business while I raised my kids.

dream of being a nurse

So, now back to my thought. That dream of being a nurse was always nagging throughout the years. Not constant, but would come and go, and I’ve always been fascinated with medical shows and books. My daughter graduated in May 2021 with a degree in Nursing. That brought everything to the forefront of my mind, and I wondered if it was possible for me to pursue my nursing dream even though I was in my fifties. I talked to my kids about it, and they were all for it.

At that point, I still wasn’t sure if I could go back to school. I decided to take a few classes in the Fall of 2021 to see if school is something I could handle. I finished with a 4.0, and I was sure it was something I wanted and could do. Then, I took classes from August 2021 through August 2022 and applied for nursing school this past September. In late October, I got the email…I was in!

On January 17, 2023, I started nursing school. I’m working on getting my associate degree in nursing and looking at coenrollment to get my bachelor’s degree at the same time. If all goes as planned, I will graduate in December 2024 with my ASN, take the NCLEX exam, find a nursing job, and within six months finish the bachelor’s degree.

Because I’ve been doing so much writing for school, I missed writing for me, so here I am back on my blog. I thought about changing the name and writing about nursing school only, but I still want to write about tech because it’s my passion. You will see instead, a category at the top, Nursing School, and that is where I will share my nursing school journey.

Let me know what you thought!!
