How I Soothe Chronic Pain Using Easy@Home TENS Device + Coupon Code
If you have chronic pain, you know how miserable it can make you if you don’t get it under control right away.
General Tips for Chronic Pain
One thing you need to remember is that everyone is different. What works for one person may not work for another. I’m sharing what works for me to give you ideas to try for yourself. I am also not a doctor, so be sure to check with a doctor before you try anything.
Rest
It may seem obvious, but sometimes we like to pretend we can do it all. When you have chronic pain, you need to respect the pain. Do not try to run a 5k or host a party during a flare-up. You have a limited amount of good, pain-free energy, so use it wisely.
I plan my week around pain. I’ve learned what activities cause me pain and how much I can do before I collapse. Then I try to plan a rest day between activities. It’s not always possible. And for a vacation, I plan a rest week.
Heat
Heat can be your friend. If you have pain all over your body, try a heating blanket instead of a heating pad. It took me a year of moving the heating pad around my body to figure out that a heating blanket will hit all the spots at once.
How to Soothe Chronic Pain
Now let’s talk about the intense pain you get in one spot.
NOTE: I was sent 2 Easy@Home TENS Units with heat therapy for my daughter and me to try out and there is a giveaway for 2 units at the end of this post (2 people will win 1 unit each).
TENS Unit With Heat
What is a TENS unit? It is a device that sends electrical pulses to the nerve endings of the sore areas and provides drug-free pain relief. I tested the Easy@Home Professional Grade TENS Unit with Heat.
I have tried several TENS units since my physical therapist used one on my shoulder after I had surgery a few years ago. But the home ones never worked as well as the one at the PT office.
The Easy@Home Professional Grade TENS Unit is the closest I’ve come to the PT device. (They had a much larger machine that could have several people hooked up to it at once, so nothing that I could ever use at home.)
It’s very easy to use following the instructions that come with the TENS device. You get 2 electrode adhesive pads and I put one on each side where I feel the pain. I found starting with heat first helps. Sometimes the heat is all I need. After about 5 minutes, if I don’t feel any relief from the heat setting, I turn on the TENS.
It feels a little prickly but good. I don’t know what other words to use to describe the feeling. There are 8 different types of pulses, 20 strength levels of intensity and 2 heat settings. I have only tried the TENS and heat settings. The unit also does EMS which uses gentle stimulation to tone muscles and help with recovery after workouts.
I’m never sure which level or setting will work best, so I start on the lowest strength setting and cycle through the 8 modes. I stop when I like the feeling. Then I start going up in strength until it feels like too much so I drop down one. I always put both pads on the same setting, but they are controlled separately, so you have the option vary the speed on each pad.
Safety Warning
DO NOT use the product if you have a cardiac pacemaker or an existing cardiac condition, implanted metal devices/screws areas of the body or suffer from epilepsy. Please be sure to talk to your doctor before trying if you have any concerns. Please check the full safety instructions.
