Stress Less, Weigh Less Book Review and Interview
Stress Less, Weigh Less (affiliate link) by Holly Mosier is not your ordinary weight loss book. The name of the book is what first intrigued me. The emphasis seemed to be on less stress which would lead to weighing less. Hmmm! Very interesting and unusual concept. One that I have not seen before and I’ve read a LOT of weight loss books. But does the book deliver? YES!
Holly Mosier
Holly Mosier (@FollowHolly, Holly Mosier Facebook Page) is not your typical weight loss book author. She is a 49-year-old attorney, yoga teacher, boxing gym owner, entrepreneur, former actress, wife and mother of four who discovered through trial and error what works for her.
I had the pleasure of talking with her on the phone this morning to discuss how Stress Less, Weigh Less came about. Her story is much like many blogging stories. She didn’t set out to write a book, but instead she found a system that was working for her and everyone wanted to know her story. She would respond in lengthy e-mails and she decided to start a blog where she began to get more and more questions. These posts and emails are the basis for the Stress Less, Weigh Less.
From page one of Stress Less, Weigh Less I was hooked. Holly’s writing isn’t preachy and you feel like you are talking with your neighbor or best friend. She uses a lot of examples and stories to explain concepts. She was once the stressed out, multi-tasking mom that many of us are now. When she discovered tools that were working to reduce her stress, a by-product was weight loss and overall, she felt healthier.
A Family Lifestyle
Holly learned to replace the parts of her life that were causing stress with daily calming rituals. From that point on, she set out to
“come up with a holistic way of life that addresses the whole mind/body connection in a way that is reasonable for the typical western American family to maintain.”
I wanted to know how Holly’s family reacted to her newfound healthy lifestyle. As she slowly changed her way of handling stress, her children noticed a change and would ask her about it. Slowly her new habits would become her family’s new habits.
The Tools For Success
Stress Less, Weigh Less does not just tell you to reduce the stress in your life or that you need to eat less and exercise more. Stress Less, Weigh Less gives you the step-by-step tools for reducing stress, recipes for food that is family friendly and easy to make (all the foods have 5 or less ingredients) and exercise and 10 minute yoga routines to follow.
I read the entire book in one day. It was very easy reading and I was so excited about the tools that Holly offers that I couldn’t wait to get to the next section to learn more. Chapter 11 of Stress Less, Weigh Less is a “month in the life of Holly” habit changing program. We all know that it takes at least 28 days for a habit to form, so this 31 day program is perfect for changing old habits.
Start Living With Stress Less, Weigh Less
The best part of the Stress Less, Weigh Less healthy lifestyle is that you do not have to stop living. Holly encourages you to find healthy replacements for the foods you enjoy. For example, if you enjoy a weekly Mojito (as I do in the summer), that is fine, use ingredients that are lower in calories and be sure to include that in your daily calories.
Holly’s plan does include keeping close track of your calories and careful planning to balance your carbs, protein and fats with each meal and snack. She encourages you to experiment with the best way to split up your daily calories. The Stress Less, Weigh Less plan can be customized to your needs.
Stress Less, Weigh Less suggests a 45 – 60 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per day. This may be split up throughout the day or week, but should average about 60 minutes/day.
I’m encouraged by the tools for stress management. For me, stress reduction is the one thing that is left out of my healthy lifestyle plans. I will follow the Stress Less, Weigh Less plan along with my half marathon training.
I found this video in Holly’s YouTube channel and I think it does an awesome job of summing up the book.
