Portion Control; Need to Sync My Eyes and Stomach #Spon
I would have no problem with my weight if I had better portion control. My eyes always want a lot more than my body needs. If only I could sync my eyes and stomach I would have better portion control.
Because I know that my eyes are bigger than my stomach, I’ve had to learn tricks throughout the years to control my portions.
1. Measure, measure, measure. It can be a pain, but measuring your portions is the only way to be sure you are eating the correct portions. I purchased a pretty set of measuring bowls that I can keep on my kitchen counter. I measure everything I eat and track it in my online food journal.
2. Buy food in portions. So often, I am in a hurry and I don’t have time to measure out everything I eat. That is when I turn to foods that are sold in portion controlled packages. For example, the Marie Callender’s meals with under 500 calories is a great way for me to have a portion controlled lunch each day.
3. Use a smaller plate. This doesn’t give you an accurate measure of the portion, but it makes it look like I am eating more than I am. My eyes are closer in size to my stomach when I use a smaller plate.
4. Separate foods into portions myself. Buying chips and crackers in smaller portions can be more expensive, so I will put them into baggies with the correct portion measured out.
As I mentioned earlier, purchasing Marie Callender’s frozen meals with under 500 calories is a great way to keep my portions controlled and it makes it really easy for me to make a lunch while I’m busy working.
This past week, I tried the Marie Callender’s Three Cheese Tortellini frozen meal for lunch. It was so easy to take a break from working, make a delicious frozen meal and enjoy a portion controlled lunch for under 500 calories. I didn’t have to measure anything…just cook and eat.
Eating the portion controlled frozen meals is also a good way to learn more about portion control. It gives my eyes a sample of what the correct portion looks like so when I do not have measuring bowls available, I can better judge the correct portion control size.
How do you manage your portions?
Disclosure: Through The Motherhood, I am compensated for this eating on the go post and I received a free coupon to purchase the Marie Callender’s meal. All opinions are 100% my own. :
