My SOPA Thoughts And Some Ramblings

Yesterday was the black out day in protest of SOPA. I didn’t go black because I’m not fond of the type of protests where you basically stop doing what you are protesting to protect. I prefer the education route. Maybe it’s my introverted personality, but when I see huge protests, it turns me off. Yes, I know in the past they have been successful. I’m not doubting that. But today, there are so many paid protesters that I believe the protest has lost it’s umph. But I digress…

SOPA

Back to the issue at hand….SOPA. I am against it. I’m not going to give you all my reasons why because you need to decide for yourself whether you believe it is good or bad. Do the research. As with everything, there are two sides. I don’t take anything at face value. I’m not against SOPA because Wiki went black yesterday and says I should be against it. I’m against it because I have done my research and I don’t like what I see.

Do The Research

I’m not even going to give you links. Go to Google, Bing, Yahoo and any other search engine and put in “SOPA.” You will get enough information to read for the next few weeks. The biggest problem with our country is that some people just believe everything they see or hear. Just because someone said or wrote it doesn’t make it true. It’s not even true JUST because someone studies it and says the statistics say it is so. Research and gather information and then make a decision based on what you know and what you feel.

Making Decisions

I’m a passionate person. When I need to make a decision, I research it thoroughly. I read about every side and everyone’s opinion and the “facts.” Then, I sit with it for a while (if I have the time.) At the end, I go with my gut and most of the time, my gut is right.

Your Thoughts?

  • I am obviously against SOPA as well, but that infographic had me smiling because some of those graphs are obviously made to scare the living daylights out of people. Not very factual, but speculation of the end of internet as we know it.

  • True, SOPA did scare everyone. Whatever our opinions are about SOPA, its not at all possible to imagine a world without information and what matters most is how we feel at the end of the day. As you say, we have to research from every angle then, decide what we feel is best.

  • SOPA is just a good scare they gave us, to know they have the power to pull the plug. I doubt they would have actually done it, but i believe they”ve made their point.
Megaupload went down at the same time, and because of SOPA not many people cared. After that other filehosting websites got scared and shut down. It’s a domino and no one knows where it stops.

Let me know what you thought!!
