I shouldn’t have had that cookie. I will never lose this weight. She made me feel so fat. I can’t look in the mirror because it makes me feel horrible. Do comments like this run through your head? Or is it just mine? After reading Day 10 in the Me, Myself, & I (affiliate link) book, I tried the self-love exercises she recommends and realized how often I have those thoughts.
Me, Myself & I – 28 Days of Creative Self-Love Book
First, let me tell you about the book and then I’ll get into my self-love exercise.
Me, Myself & I – 28 Days of Creative Self-Love is not just a self-help book you read and then move on. It is a 28 days journey to bring more self-love to your life. Each chapter is a day in the journey.
Cheryl Bridges starts the chapter with stories, pictures and examples of that day’s topic. Each day includes a journal prompt, creative journaling prompt (hands on journaling), affirmations and other resources. The chapters are short and the prompts shouldn’t take hours.
I love that the information is easily understood with her examples and stories and the journaling helps you take that information and relate it to your own life. The prompts are meant to open your eyes to the things you are doing that you don’t realize.
Negative Self Talk
I chose to write about Day 10 which is Moods & Tudes: Mind Habits. I know that I have these negative thoughts a lot. I didn’t realize how often until I started to be aware of it and I made a little check mark on a blank piece of paper every time I had one. That was eye-opening.
I did that because the journaling reflection asked me to make an honest assessment of my mind habits. In order to do that, I needed to pay closer attention to what was going in my mind. Being more aware of it has already helped me to turn those negative thoughts into more positive thoughts.
My plan is to delve deeper into some of other resources. I’m going to write some of the affirmations down on sticky notes and put them in places where I’ll see it often.
The book takes you through a 28 day journey, but if one of the topics doesn’t jive with you, then you don’t have to do the prompts. You can just move on to the next day.
