Yesterday I wrote about the Women in Tech Demo Day event in DC and today I’m sharing the pitches from the 12 teams and the winner.
Twelve Pitches at #WITDemoDay
The atmosphere in the room was exciting. Just knowing that 12 teams were creating solutions for a problem was inspiring. The specific challenge for the DC Demo Day was to:
Help inspire more girls of color to learn coding by creating a solution that enables our tech divas to imagine themselves a computer scientists.
Below is the Facebook Live post with all 12 of the pitches from the Women In Tech Demo Day. The event was at the Capital One offices. Capital One partnered with AngelHack.

Women In Tech Demo Day DC Winner
The winner was Alika’s Treehouse. It is an interactive comic book for girls of the digital age. It follows a storyline and allows girls to learn coding by interacting with the story.
The first pitch in the video above is the winning pitch if you’d like to see the demo.
Unfortunately, Facebook closed down on me before they made the final announcement of Alika’s Treehouse as the winner, but the video below explains how the judges chose the winning pitch.

Final Thoughts on Women In Tech Demo Day
There were so many creative solutions for this challenge. I hope that all the teams continue to bring their ideas to life.
The experience that Women In Tech Demo Day gives each member of the team is immeasurable. It’s not easy to get up in front of a group of people and give a three minute pitch.
Leticia and I spent some time talking with the teams and helping with pitches. It was clear that everyone there has a passion for getting more girls and young women to go into tech fields.
As a mother of two girls (and two boys), I am hopeful that if my girls decide they want to go into a tech career, they will have the opportunity and support.
Disclosure: Capital One supported my attendance at Women In Tech Demo Day. All opinions are my own.
