Making Your Own Soda With SodaStream

sodastream logoDid you ever think that someday you would be able to make soda at home? I know I didn’t, although I secretly wished that someday I could have a fountain soda fresh in my home.

At BlogHer this past August, I tried the [amazon_link id=”B002SKHQS4″ target=”_blank” ]SodaStream[/amazon_link] soda maker and I surprised at how close the soda was to my beloved McDonald’s Diet Coke. I knew I was going to have to try it out on my own.

Making Your Own Soda

I received the Genesis SodaStream soda maker along with a sample flavor kit and several full bottles of flavors.

We followed the directions carefully and started by putting the SodaStream Carbonator into the Genesis unit. When you run out of the gas, you can have refill or exchange the CO2. The website has the refill/exchange  instructions.

I filled the SodaStream bottle with cold water and attached it to the Genesis.

Next, you screw the bottle into the soda maker.

Pump the carbonation button on top five times (per the directions on the Diet Cola flavor bottle) and each pump pushed the carbonated gas into the cold water. If you like less carbonation, only pump it 4 times. The nice thing with making the soda at home is that you can experiment with the carbonation and flavors to your taste.

Next, you pour the syrup or flavor into the bottle of carbonated cold water (do over the sink) and then put the cap back on the bottle and very gently shake to mix.

SodaStream is Easy

That’s it! It really is very easy and takes no electricity either. My kids can all make their own soda.

There are many soda flavors, Crystal Light flavors and you can make any combination you like.

We keep our SodaStream right on the counter because we use it often.
