Turn Off The Station If You Don't Like What You Are Hearing
Why is sharing your excitement about an event a bad thing? Is everyone who has experienced joy supposed to keep quiet because others were disappointed?
I have not been invited to many events, but I still love to hear about the fun everyone else is having. I can be happy for others even if I didn’t get an invitation. I have attended an event the next year because of all the joy I saw tweeted during a previous conference.
There is a lot more to conferences than sessions. There is networking. That is what is going on when you see the happy chatter about a conference. It’s the networking time.
And in the end, if you don’t like what you are hearing, change the station! Unfollow, don’t read, mute the hashtag. YOU have the power to ignore what you don’t want to hear. In high school, when I didn’t like what someone was saying, I didn’t go around bad mouthing them, I just ignored and moved on.

So true! I follow the hashtag for events that I am not going to or invited to just so I can learn from those who are there in real time!
