Leap Frog’s My Robot Friend iOS App; Creative Learning Game #CleverRobotFriend
We have a lot of Leap Frog products in our house, so I was more than happy to give the My Robot Friend app a try. My Robot Friend by Leap Frog is a new iOS kid’s learning app.
Before I let my 8-year-old have a go at the game, I figured I better try it out first. Within 10 minutes I was hooked. The game forces you to thinking creatively, outside the box. The graphics were fun and engaging and I had no problems with the app freezing or closing down on my iPad Mini.
Once Megan go home, I showed it to her. She loved that she could create a new user and take a photo of herself. At first she didn’t want to go through the tutorial because she is used to getting right into a new game. I assured her that the tutorial was fun and definitely needed.
She was hooked very quickly and that was during the tutorial. The object is to get your Robot Friend from point A to point B by telling him how to move along the squares.
You use cards to tell him how many squares to go forward, backward or which direction to turn. There are obstacles which you can use specific cards to destroy and there are coins and treasures to earn along the way.
Here is a quick video demo:
You earn the coins and you can use them to buy new costumes or voices for your robot or other additional game fun. There are 80 levels so the game isn’t one where you’ll easily finish in a few hours. I love that there are no in-app purchases. The game is $3.99 and you won’t need to buy anything else.
Here is a quote directly from a Leapfrog Learning Expert about the skills learned by playing the My Robot Friend game:
Problem solving and logic skills are important skills for all learners because they can be applied to all school subjects. My Robot Friend exercises and builds these skills through fun puzzles and whimsical activities. As children play these puzzles, they are also exposed to basic concepts of robotics and computer programming. My Robot Friend is an engaging and age-appropriate way for children to explore some very sophisticated 21st century skills.

The game is geared toward kids ages 9 and up. All of my kids enjoyed the game and I thought it was a lot of fun too. It was addicting and definitely worth $3.99.
