Texting While Driving, AT&T #ItCanWait
As the parent of a teen who is learning to drive, my biggest fear is the texting and driving. I know that no one means to get in the car, text and die or kill someone, but sometimes that beep of the phone is too much to resist. But, IT CAN WAIT!!!
Disclosure: I received the same “It Can Wait” prize pack that I am giving away in this post. No other compensation was received. All opinions are 100% my own. This is an issue that is near and dear to my heart.
I’ve been sitting here thinking of the words to write in the post and nothing seemed right. I went to the AT&T It Can Wait website and found a ton of videos by kids, parents, experts & police officers. I picked out a few that moved me the most.
It’s Just Sad
This first video will have you in tears. This is a parent’s worst nightmare. How one text can change your life.
How often have we all glanced at a text? It Can Wait!
Texting While Driving Crash
This next video depicts a crash and is quite the eye opener….
How often have you read a quick text while in the car? or tried to answer a quick text? It Can Wait!
Adults and Texting While Driving
You may not have kids or have teens and you’re thinking this doesn’t pertain to you, but did you know that more adults text while driving than teens? That statistic alarms me.
AT&T conducted a survey recently and this video shows some of the scary stats….
Adult Texting While Driving Infographic
And here is an Infographic with the info
Samsung SIII Prize Pack Giveaway
ENDED! AT&T has provided one(1) It Can Wait prize pack which includes: Samsung Galaxy SIII, a phone case, t-shirt, stickers, and thumbbands.
AT&T DriveMode Android App
I have the AT&T DriveMode app on my phone and I encourage you to download and use it too. The app limits what you can do on your phone while you are driving and will send an auto text response when you receive a text.
My kids and I spend a lot of time discussing texting while driving and I lead by example. If I get a text while I’m driving, I either pull over to look at it and respond or I have someone else in the car read it to me and respond.

How do you teach your kids about texting and driving?
There are already so many solutions for that, Siri is just one of them; I can’t get it why people still text with the fingers.
I still text with my hands when I can because it is more accurate. I’m often in a loud room where I can’t speak into the phone and sometimes I just don’t want others to hear what I’m saying. So I think Siri and the others have their place, but there are times when it’s not good.
On behalf of 76% of the population (adults), I am embarrassed for our example.
I appreciate your honesty. More adults need to realize the mistake and make a change. Thank you!
These statistics are infuriating and they are something to worry about. The majority of my friends text while driving and never think about the consequences and when I ask them about it they laugh a good laugh at me, pat me on the shoulder and ironically tell me that I worry too much. I dread car crashes so much that I feel the anxiety whenever any close person of mine is on the road. Thank you for making these videos more popular!
Many people seem to feel they are invincible. Unfortunately, people often don’t change until a disaster happens.
Texting while driving is definitely very dangerous. I always try to talk my friends out of it with little succes up to this point.
Let’s just hope it isn’t a disaster that makes them listen to you!
There was a sign outside a church saying “honk if you love Jesus, text if you want to meet him”
That’s an awesome saying! Thank you for sharing.
Amen to this!! Love it!

I have taken the #ItCanWait pledge, although I promised myself I would never text and drive when I first got my license. I’m from Johnston County North Carolina and in the past 8 years we’ve had around 35 teens die in car wrecks. This is only the teenagers! Many others have died as well. Most of those accidents were either fully or partly attributed to texting and driving. Some of those people I knew personally and I miss them everyday. I do not want to end up in that same position. Texting while driving never even crosses my mind as a result, and when I see people I’m riding with pick up their phone, I take it away from them until we reach our destination.
Ive already taken the pledge & never text drive
