5 Gadgets I Found at CES to Enhance Your Life
It’s been almost a month since CES (Consumer Electronics Show) and I’m finally able to think clearly about all the fantastic new gadgets I saw. I was specifically looking for products that will enhance my life (and yours) in some way. I’m a firm believer that gadgets should not make our life more complicated.
With that in mind, here are 5 gadgets I found at CES that will enhance your life.
HP Pavilion dm1. This product just blew me away for several reasons. It is very lightweight at a little over 3.5 lbs. The battery lasts up to 9.5 hours and it is priced at under $500. This is a PERFECT example of a computer that is getting smaller, but packed with more features. All of this power and awesome battery life is possible because of the new AMD Fusion APU (Accelerated Processing Unit) which combines the CPU and graphics and uses less power than other processors. You could watch several HD movies and never run out of battery power. (Disclosure: I am an AMD Mom. Not compensated for this. Opinions are my own.)
Hitachi LifeStudio. As a mom and digital scrapbooker, I am always taking pictures. Organizing my pictures has always been a disaster. I mean to do it, but I never get around to it. The Hitachi LifeStudio helps with the organization. It is a hard drive which will store your pictures, videos, documents and music and includes a 3D wall interface which makes it easier to find what you are looking for. They are organized automatically in chronological order. Once you find your pictures, you can upload to Facebook, Flickr or Picasa in one easy step. The mobile version includes a 4 GB USB key so you can take your pictures or videos with you.
KODAK PLAYFULL Video Camera. KODAK is adding a new video camera to it’s line-up. This one is slim in design, yet captures video up to 1080p (1920 x 1080) and still pictures up to 5mp. It includes 5 special effects and in one step, you can mark your videos or pictures to share automatically on 10 different sharing sites when you plug in the USB arm to upload to your computer. It also includes an expandable SD/SDHC card slot (up to 32 GB). This video camera is the perfect size to carry with you all the time. Never miss an opportunity to capture the perfect moment on video. I’m really excited about this new video camera because I have owned both the Zi6 and Zi8 and I’m really happy with the quality of the video and sound. My only complaint was that it was a bit too large for my small hands. This new small video camera fixes that issue.
HP Photosmart eStation All-in-One Printer (c510a). This printer caught my eye because it has a feature that I never thought I would need in a printer, but once I saw it, I know it would really be useful. It includes a detachable full color 7 inch touchscreen (it looks like a small tablet). I am often searching for pictures that I want to print for various projects. I do this while sitting at my computer because that is where my pictures are located. With the detachable touchscreen, I can go anywhere within my house and look for pictures or browse the internet and print from any website. Using apps, you can download from Yahoo!, Facebook or Snapfish. Your printer is also given it’s own e-mail address. I can sit in my car, search my iPad for the perfect picture, e-mail it to my printer and have it sitting there waiting for me when I get home. It is also a wireless printer, copier, scanner and fax machine. The uses for this printer are endless.
XShot Camera Extender. At first sight, this didn’t seem like much, but after I had a chance to try it out, I saw how this could help me. It’s not easy to take a picture or video of yourself while holding the camera. You put your camera on the XShot and extend it out so that you can easily fit your whole face (or group of people) into the picture/video. The XShot will extend from 9 inches to over 3 feet which allows you to get shots or video of up to 10 people. It also closes to a small size so you can bring it with you. Now you can be in all those family vacation pictures without carrying a heavy tripod around.
There were thousands of products at CES, but these five stuck out in my head because they will definitely enhance my life.
