Picking the right college or university you want to go to can be a really frightening and stressful thing, but it is also a time to get excited! Take these 5 tips from someone who recently decided where they’re going to school to help you make your decision as well.
5 Tips For Picking The Right College
Tip #1 – Have an image of what you want your college experience to look like. Knowing what you want out of your college experience is super important. If a school can’t give you what you are looking for, then it may not be the best choice for you.
Tip #2 – Check its mileage from home. Pick a school that is a distance away from home that you are most comfortable with. If you want to be able to come home every couple weekends, maybe a school with an easily accessible bus system and a shorter distance is a safer bet.
Tip #3 – Stalk their current students on social media. The students you will see leading the tours and the in the videos during the info sessions are their most ideal students, but what you won’t necessarily see are the ones not featured. See what their current students are up to, how their lives are, their struggles and their achievements. And don’t be afraid to message a current student, most will be happy to tell you about their experience!
Tip #4 – Research the school’s surroundings. See what opportunities are available for community service, clubs, sports, jobs, etc. Going to a school with a sense of community with the locals is very important.
Tip #5 – It’s okay to be scared. Starting college is a scary thing for everyone. You are not going to be alone on this journey. And if you don’t know what the heck you’re doing with your life. It is okay. There is something out there for everyone.
I hope these 5 tips help you as much as they helped me. I know this time in your life is crazy, but you’re not alone and we’re all in this together.
