Discovery Girls Guide to Growing Up for Tween Girls

Discovery Girls Guide to Growing UP Givewawy

Discovery Girls Guide to Growing UP GivewawyLet’s face it, growing up is hard for girls. It is uncomfortable for both parents and kids to discuss some of the difficult growing up questions. I remember thinking that I was the only one that had certain feelings and I didn’t like to ask questions. I always felt it made me weak. As an adult, I know that’s not right, but as a tween, it was very real. (I received the friendship & growing up books from Discovery Girls for this post.)

Growing Up is Hard

I love the Discovery Girls magazine and books because they talk about all the difficult topics and they speak directly to the tween girls. I like to use it as an opportunity to open a discussion.

Growing Up for tween girls

When I received the Friendship Hardship Handbook and the Girls Guide to Growing Up, I spent some time looking through each book so I knew what topics my daughter would be reading about.

When I gave her the books, I told her that if she had any questions about anything in the book, she can ask me. I wasn’t going to get mad or think her questions were silly.

Girls Guide to Growing Up

My daughter is 9, but she has a 15-year-old sister, so she is exposed to some of the realities of growing up. The Girls Guide to Growing Up…Everything You Need to Know About Your Changing Body goes gives the girls facts and explanations of what will happen. It also goes into the emotions of growing up and how to deal with those emotions. That is probably the toughest part of growing up.

Friendship Hardship

Even at 9, the friendship troubles have started. The Friendship Hardship…Mean girls, jealousy, stuck in the middle…here’s help! book has stories, quizzes and advice to help tweens navigate the tough friendship issues. It also teaches her how to get out of troubled friendships and being a good friend.

Self Esteem and Girls

Both books focus on healthy self-esteem for girls. I have tried hard to teach my kids to be strong and love their bodies and their minds, but it is nice to have the books that reinforce what we are teaching.

Having a resource for my girls that I feel confident will teach them the facts and possibly open up the lines of communication between us is a useful tool for parents. Growing up is tough enough, but knowing you are not alone can make it a difference.

Discovery Girls Other Books

Discovery Girls also has 3 other books that I have not read, but I’m sure they are as helpful as the 2 we have.

  • The piece of advice I would give myself is “you will never regret doing the right thing, even when it’s hard.”
