EA SPORTS Active Goes 2.0

  • Google Buzz

EA Sports Active, interactive fitness productEA SPORTS Active is expanding it’s line of interactive fitness products. Not only will the EA SPORTS Active be available for the Wii, but also the Playstation 3, iPhone and iTouch. We will never be to far away to workout.

As many of you know, I was a 6 week challenger for the EA SPORTS Active More Workouts. One of the reasons, I love this product has a lot to do with the interaction EA SPORTS has with it’s customers. They listen to us, they talk with us, they support us, they motivate us. It’s quite obvious with this new 2.0 (working title) version of EA SPORTS Active, that they have been listening to their customers.

According to the EA SPORTS Active blog,

… the new fitness program will feature a wireless control system which will make it that much easier to get a great workout.

There will be leg and arm straps with motion sensors along with a heart rate monitor.

EA SPORTS Active Challenge 2.0 style

With any fitness product, I want to be challenged, supported, motivated and heard. The 2.0 version will include a 3 phase 9 week challenge along with an online community where we will track and share our fitness data. We will be able to support and motivate each other with workout groups and messaging. New workouts will be available for download to keep our workouts new and exciting. The EA SPORTS Active online hub will be the “one stop shop” for all our fitness needs.

I am so excited about this new version, although we won’t be able to get our hands on it until this Fall. EA SPORTS Active is keeping this geek fit and healthy. I have been the most successful in my healthy lifestyle efforts when I’ve had a support system and EA SPORTS Active 2.0 has added that key element to their interactive fitness product.

Have you tried either of the EA SPORTS Active Personal Trainer or More Workouts? Will you buy the new 2.0 version?

disclosure: I was not compensated for this post. I wrote it because I am SUPER excited about this new 2.0 version and I’m sharing my joy!

EA SPORTS Active Retreat Vlog & March of Dimes Charity Auction

EAS_Active_DblDrop

Many of you know that I was a 6 week challenger for EA SPORTS Active. I participated in the 6 week challenge using More Workouts over the holidays. Check out my final challenge vlog post to see how well I did..

After the challenge, all 12 of us challengers met in Beverly Hills for a retreat and charity party. I had THE most AWESOME time. I loved meeting all of the challengers and the EA SPORTS Active folks. We stayed in the most glamorous hotel I’ve ever stayed. It was the SLS Beverly Hills hotel and words just can not describe what this hotel was like. You’ll have to check out my vlog post about the room.

I finally got to meet @Active_Girl (Kathryn Peck) in person and had the opportunity to meet with Gerard (@Active_Trainer) to discuss our personal goals both short and long term. He also answered a lot of our questions about the product and fitness. He was a wealth of information and made exercise sound like a lot of fun.

We all got celebrity makeovers and then had our “after” shots taken by a professional photographer by the pool (and it was about 75 degrees in January).

March of Dimes Charity Event

The highlight of the entire trip was going to a celebrity charity event hosted by Nancy O’Dell and sponsored by EA SPORTS Active. Nancy and her friends set up personalized workouts on the More Workouts and then signed a Wii. Those systems and games are currently being auctioned off at Charity Buzz. Be sure to check out the auctions. All the money raised goes for a very worthy charity, March of Dimes.

The trip would not be complete without a few dinners out with good friends and of course a 4.4 mile hike.

Sometimes the best way to tell you about a fantastic event is to show you. I created this (not so) short, but really fun video of our entire retreat. Enjoy!

disclosure: EA SPORTS Active sent me a copy of More Workouts to use in the 6 week challenge and paid for my entire trip to the retreat. All opinions are my own.

Ready for another challenge? Join me and EA SPORTS Active for a Couples Challenge. I need to get my hubby to complete either the 30 day or the 6 week challenge and there is my opportunity. Grab a partner and come along.

I'm Workin' It…Using the EA Sports Active More Workouts

  • Google Buzz

I have completed week 4 of the 6 week challenge in the EA Sports Active More Workouts. During the 4 weeks I encountered several obstancles including Thanksgiving, a trip to Atlanta with my husband which included many parties, Christmas cookies and several Holiday parties. Despite all that, I managed to lose 5 lbs and 4 inches so far. During this same time period last year, I gained 10 lbs. I also feel much stronger and more energized. My 13 year old son even said to me (when I was all dressed up for a holiday party), “WOW Mom you look nice. That EA Sports is working.”

Here are a few videos of my weekly recaps:

EA Sports Active More Workouts First Impressions

EA Sports Active More Workouts Box

As a EA Sports Active 6 Week Challenger, I got to try out the game this week. (This geek was in heaven.) Since I have been training with the EA Sports Active Personal Trainer (the first EA Sports Active game) for the last 6 months and just finished training for my 5k, I figured this More Workouts was going to be a breeze. I put the disc in my Wii console and it immediately found my profile from the Personal Trainer game and pulled all my information into the new game. I was able to adjust my avatar in the new game and there are more options for clothing styles. I got myself all dressed up (in the game) for More Workouts and figured I’d breeze through an easy workout.

I didn’t even bother to put my hair up or put on shoes because i really had myself convinced it would be really easy.  I chose an easy 20 minutes workout. It started with some warm-up exercises and then got right into the fun. The scenery was worth the new game for me. I was working out along the beach and riding the waves. All the exercises I did were either completely different or a variation of an exercise from Personal Trainer.  It was definitely a challenging workout

Right after I completed that first workout, I recorded this video. I wanted to capture the excitement I felt at that moment.

My first geek impression? AWESOME

Today, I tried the 11 minute abdominal workout. Yes, the More Workouts includes workouts for your abs. It was 11 minutes of abdominal torture. I had a hysterectomy 2 years ago so my abs are not very strong and an area I’m really looking forward to strengthening. More Workouts is going to do that.

A few more first impression comments:

  • The obstacle course is really fun and really difficult. A great interval workout.
  • Easy to transfer your information from Personal Trainer to More Workouts.
  • Playing squash is really hard for me even in a game (but a challenging lunge workout).
  • I can water ski on the Wii much better than in real life.
  • I prefer running with gorgeous scenery.
  • My trainer won’t let me cheat on the abs exercises.
  • I’m very sore this evening after 2 days of More Workouts cardio and an abs workout.
  • This is a Geek tool for living an active lifestyle

Here is a video from the EA Sports Active website showing the different exercises that are available:

The EA Sports Active More Workouts will be available on November 17. Go out and buy it and then join us for the 6 week challenge which starts on November 20th. I will be joining 11 other challengers in the 6 week challenge. We will be tracking and sharing our progress with you at the EA Sports Active More Workouts website.

EA Sports Active Review & Vlog 6 Months Later

  • Google Buzz

October 9, 2009 Post:
I’ve received a few questions about what the EA Sports Active is all about since I posted my plans to train for the 5k using the EA Sports Active. Right after it came out this past May, I did a post with a video review. So, I’m reposting that with some additional comments now that I’ve been using the Sports Active for much longer now.

After completing the 30 day challenge, I felt much stronger, healthier and I’d lost 10 lbs. The biggest change though was not in just me, but also in my family. My kids were so excited to play the game with me or to do their own 30 day challenge. We had to go out and buy a second set of bands so 2 of us could play together. (Sidenote: do NOT try to save money and buy the generic bands, purchase the ones made by EA. We found out the hard way.)

Now, almost 6 months later, we are still more active and using the EA Sports Active AND we are training for a 5k. Both my 10 yr old daugther and my 13 yr old son are going to run the 5k with me. My husband is going to run the 1k with my 5 yr old daughter and 6 yr old son. I’m so excited that we will be participating as a family. These changes don’t happen overnight, but the EA Sports Active has definitely helped our family become more active.

We have 1 week left until the 5k. Our goal is to complete the 5k together. I will post pictures of our training and 5k next Saturday.

Now here is my original review and the video review I did (it’s a silly video because I was playing with some new software I bought).

May 25, 2009 Post:
On May 19, when the EA Sports Active became available, I went to Toys ‘R Us and picked up mine. I have been waiting for this for a few months. I went right home and started my 30 day challenge. I have been having so much fun and I can’t wait each day to workout. I even fit a quick workout in on very very busy days which is something I have not done in a long time. Working out is usually the first thing dropped off the daily schedule, but not anymore.

The benefits I’ve noticed so far:

  • I lost 5 pounds
  • I am eating better because I feel healthier
  • My arms and legs feel tighter
  • Exercise has become a fun activity instead of a chore
  • DH enjoys looking at my behind more

I’ve been meaning to write up a post about the EAS Active, but every time I sit down to do it, my words just don’t give it justice. So, instead, I created a fun little video. The actors are not professionals, so please excuse their performance. They did their best. Enjoy!
