My Expo Expo Video Mashup

  • Google Buzz

While at Expo Expo, I took a lot of photos and videos. Here is my mashup of the event. Enjoy!

There were so many more moments, but for me, this highlighted what I will take away from the event.

And now for my brag moments. I had the opportunity to meet a few of my social media idols.

How to Check Your Real-Time Social Media Mentions for Free

  • Google Buzz

Social MentionUpdated 12/19 to add definition of “passion” percentage.

I have been using Social Mention for a few months now and I just realized tonight that they offer an alert that I can receive in my e-mail. The website is called Social Mention and it is a real-time search engine. You use it to track your personal brand and see where you are mentioned. Now, I can get these social mentions daily in my email box or in my RSS reader all for free.

This is what you see on the home page. Just put the term you want to search into field (A) and choose what you want to search (blog, videos, bookmarks, all, etc) in (B). The topics I always search

  • my user/profile name all over the online world
  • my blog name
  • my company name
  • my full name
  • my hubby’s name
  • and each of my kids’ names too
  • Dock

This is what I see when I search “scrappinmichele”. There is so much really useful information. You can click on the links above the search box and narrow your results to videos, blogs, bookmarks, etc from this page too.

A Quick Recap of My IAEE Expo Expo Adventure

    • Google Buzz

IAEE >I had the pleasure of attending Expo Expo with my husband, Jason in Atlanta this week. Expo Expo is the annual meeting of the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE). The hot topic of the meeting was social media and since I live for social media, I was really excited to be there. I’m still trying to digest all the information from the week, but a few things stood out for me and I wanted to get them down here before they escape me.

    • Every person who is immersed in social media on a daily basis should attend an event outside of social media and talk with people who are just beginning to navigate this new media.
    • Social media will never replace face-to-face meetings completely. Social media only makes you want the face-to-face more.
    • You can not outsource your social media to a third party. A third party can teach you to navigate the social media jungle, but they can not do it for you.
    • Remember to take a step back at times and just listen.

These four points have been spinning around in my head for the last few days and I will digest them and go into more detail in the coming weeks.

What are your thoughts on these points? Do you have anything to add that stood out?

3 Tools I'm Using to Attend Blog World Expo and Sitscation from Home

    • Google Buzz

This year I am not able to attend Blog World Expo or Sitscation in person, but that has not stopped me from participating in many of the events. The 3 tools I am using are:

    1. Twitter. My TweetDeck is all decked out to catch the hashtags #bwe09 (Blog World Expo) and #sitscation (Sitscation) and #cbbwe (Collective Bias Blog World Expo) streams.

    TweetDeck

    2. Whrrl. This is the best way to virtually attend the parties because you can see the pictures along with the notes from everyone attending. Search for the hashtags #bwe09, #sitscation & #cbbwe on Whrrl to find the stories.

    3. mycontent.com is live streaming all of the keynotes and a few of the sessions from Blog World Expo.

mycontent.com live stream #bwe09 Blog World Expo

This may not be as good as attending in person, but it definitely is beneficial. I am learning a lot from watching the keynotes and reading all the tweets coming out of all the sessions (and I can attend all the sessions at once). I have made quite a few contacts through Twitter by contacting those that are tweeting something that interests me and asking questions.

You may not be able to attend all of the conferences throughout the year, but don’t let that stop you from networking and learning from these conferences.

What have you learned from watching the tweets and following the stories from conferences you didn’t attend in person?
