Digital Soul Hour: Talking about CES, the Nook & Apple's Announcement

  • Google Buzz

Scraps_DigitalSoulHour_125_web

Due to technical difficulties, my show will be rescheduled. I will repost with updates.

There is so much going on in the tech world right. CES was a few weeks ago, Apple is making their big announcement today, I got a Nook and probably a few more things. So, let’s talk tech tonight.

My husband went to CES so we’ll talk about some of the new technologies coming out of CES.
I will demo my new Nook live and answer any questions.
Apple is making it’s big announcement today and I’ll give you the scoop.
If we have time, let’s talk about what conferences you are going to this year (I’m planning my year so I’m curious)

Tracking Santa the Geek Way

  • Google Buzz
NORAD Tracks Santa

Even at 42, I love to track Santa on Christmas Eve. I remember as a kid listening to the radio and getting so excited as Santa went from country to country. We used to get out maps and the encyclopedia to see where all the different countries were. My kids have it a little easier, but no less fun. I’m not even sure if you can hear his whereabouts on the radio anymore. I’m sure some stations are updating us, but I think it’s a lot more fun to track him the GEEK way!

  • @noradsanta - Norad will be tweeting Santa’s location
  • NORAD Santa Tracker -The official NORAD Santa Tracker website. NORAD has been tracking Santa for over 50 years (yes, same ones who were on the radion back when I was a kid).
  • Facebook Page - NORAD’s Facebook fan page
  • Google Earth 3D Santa Tracker – Track Santa in 3D.  They have video for some locations too. Here is a direct link to the page to download Google Earth.

iPhone Apps

All 3 are 99 cents. I have not downloaded any of these because we set up one of our computers in our home as the official Santa Tracker computer and it displays Google Earth all day. It keeps my kids busy while we wait for Christmas Eve to be over and they know they need to go to bed as he gets closer to the United States. I included these in case you are traveling today and can’t be near your computer. I wouldn’t want any geeks out there to miss out on tracking Santa. :D

How will you be tracking Santa this year?

My Virtual elf Makeover by GetRealSarah (not JibJab)

  • Google Buzz

Virtual Makeover? Yes! I attended an online eyes lips face (e.l.f.) MUAH party (by SheSpeaks) with @GetRealSarah on her Get Real MomTV show today. Now, if that isn’t the way a geek attends a party, I don’t know what is. LOL! e.l.f. makeup is now available at Target and I went nuts when I saw all that was available and the prices were outstanding. Around $1 -3 for most.

Here is a video of me after my makeover:

Voting, Electronic or Paper?

KANSAS CITY, MO - NOVEMBER 04: A roll of 'I V...

Today, Virginia votes for a new Governor. I have a lot going on today, so I got up early (and it was light out at 6am) to cast my vote.

My biggest pet peeve about voting is when the candidates are at the polling place. I’ve had them call me for weeks, send me junk mail, seen their signs, but when I get to the polling place, I don’t want to see them anywhere on the property unless they are voting.

But the real vote today was for electronic or paper ballot. Our voting place had 1 electronic booth and 4 paper ballot booths. Being the geek that I am, I voted using the electronic booth. I personally trust the electronic process over the paper especially after all the hanging chads in Florida a few years back.

I’m curious, if you have a choice between paper or electronic voting, which would you choose?
