EA Sports Active More Workouts First Impressions

  • Google Buzz

EA Sports Active More Workouts Box

As a EA Sports Active 6 Week Challenger, I got to try out the game this week. (This geek was in heaven.) Since I have been training with the EA Sports Active Personal Trainer (the first EA Sports Active game) for the last 6 months and just finished training for my 5k, I figured this More Workouts was going to be a breeze. I put the disc in my Wii console and it immediately found my profile from the Personal Trainer game and pulled all my information into the new game. I was able to adjust my avatar in the new game and there are more options for clothing styles. I got myself all dressed up (in the game) for More Workouts and figured I’d breeze through an easy workout.

I didn’t even bother to put my hair up or put on shoes because i really had myself convinced it would be really easy.  I chose an easy 20 minutes workout. It started with some warm-up exercises and then got right into the fun. The scenery was worth the new game for me. I was working out along the beach and riding the waves. All the exercises I did were either completely different or a variation of an exercise from Personal Trainer.  It was definitely a challenging workout

Right after I completed that first workout, I recorded this video. I wanted to capture the excitement I felt at that moment.

My first geek impression? AWESOME

Today, I tried the 11 minute abdominal workout. Yes, the More Workouts includes workouts for your abs. It was 11 minutes of abdominal torture. I had a hysterectomy 2 years ago so my abs are not very strong and an area I’m really looking forward to strengthening. More Workouts is going to do that.

A few more first impression comments:

  • The obstacle course is really fun and really difficult. A great interval workout.
  • Easy to transfer your information from Personal Trainer to More Workouts.
  • Playing squash is really hard for me even in a game (but a challenging lunge workout).
  • I can water ski on the Wii much better than in real life.
  • I prefer running with gorgeous scenery.
  • My trainer won’t let me cheat on the abs exercises.
  • I’m very sore this evening after 2 days of More Workouts cardio and an abs workout.
  • This is a Geek tool for living an active lifestyle

Here is a video from the EA Sports Active website showing the different exercises that are available:

Run a 5k with Me and EA Sports Active

Me? Run a 5k? No way?!

That would have been my reply 2 years ago. I’m not a runner. I hate running. Not gonna do it!

But, last year I ran a 5k in October for the first time. My goal? To finish and finish I did in just under 38 minutes. Considering I was not working out nor did I train for the 5k, I was very happy.

This year, I want to do better. I saw Momspective’s Fitness Friday post a few weeks ago about a 5k training program using your EA Sports Active. They were looking for Community Leaders to put together teams to participate in local 5k runs. I signed up!

I will be running the Stone Ridge 5k Race for Education in my local community. My family, kids age 4, 6, 10 and 13, will be running the 1k that is coordinated with the 5k. It is the same run I did last year and it will support our local schools. To train for that 5k, I will be doing a combination of the EA Sports Active and running. I downloaded the chart from the EA Sports Active website. I have completed week 1 and I have 3 weeks until my 5k.

My goal this year is to finish the run in less than 35 minutes.

I purchased my EA Sports Active the day it came out and it has been a very integral part of my workout routine. I immediately did the 30 day challenge and it was hard. I figured I’d be able to just breeze right through it, but that was not the case. For the first week I was sore every morning after doing the workout. I could feel a big difference in my clothes and I lost 6 lbs.

On November 17, EA Sports Active More Workouts is being released which will include a 6 week long challenge. The 5k is a way to step up the challenge while waiting for More Workouts. There are also more warm up and cool down exercises and the addition of 4 new workouts that target the midsection.
