3 Tools I'm Using to Attend Blog World Expo and Sitscation from Home

  • Google Buzz

This year I am not able to attend Blog World Expo or Sitscation in person, but that has not stopped me from participating in many of the events. The 3 tools I am using are:

1. Twitter. My TweetDeck is all decked out to catch the hashtags #bwe09 (Blog World Expo) and #sitscation (Sitscation) and #cbbwe (Collective Bias Blog World Expo) streams.

2. Whrrl. This is the best way to virtually attend the parties because you can see the pictures along with the notes from everyone attending. Search for the hashtags #bwe09, #sitscation & #cbbwe on Whrrl to find the stories.

3. mycontent.com is live streaming all of the keynotes and a few of the sessions from Blog World Expo.

This may not be as good as attending in person, but it definitely is beneficial. I am learning a lot from watching the keynotes and reading all the tweets coming out of all the sessions (and I can attend all the sessions at once). I have made quite a few contacts through Twitter by contacting those that are tweeting something that interests me and asking questions.

You may not be able to attend all of the conferences throughout the year, but don’t let that stop you from networking and learning from these conferences.

What have you learned from watching the tweets and following the stories from conferences you didn’t attend in person?

Chicago, Chicago, I'm going to Chicago & BowlHer

  • Google Buzz

Thank you to Collective Bias and Campbell’s for sending me to Chicago next week.

During the BowlHer, #GNO twitter party this past Tuesday I entered a contest by tweeting my favorite fast and easy family recipe (under $10) to John Andrews of Collective Bias. This was my entry:

Winning Recipe TWeet

I’m the girl who never wins anything, so I didn’t even think about it again after I sent the recipe. When John Andrews called me the next day, I was in SHOCK. I was so excited, I couldn’t get the words out fast enough to tell my husband.

I wasn’t sure how Jason was going to feel about me leaving for a few days over his birthday. Yes, I said I’m going to be partying at BowlHer in Chicago while my husband is at home with our 4 kids on his BIRTHDAY!! I have the best husband in the world.

My mind is still racing because I am a planner. I need weeks and weeks to prepare for trips and this one came out of the blue so my mind is working on overtime. I’m nervous, scared and excited all at the same time. I have to go shopping for real clothes and get business cards printed, get a haircut and a thousand other things that are on my To Do list.

Ultimately, I am so excited about this trip because I get to finally meet so many of the people that I have met online. If you see a short chick with long blonde hair and a purple iPhone in hand, stop me and introduce yourself.

I will be uploading pictures and blogging during my trip, so you can come with me on my journey. Be sure to follow me on Twitter and Facebook.
