CarWoo Bringing Breast Cancer Awareness to World Series

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting the team behind CarWoo at BlogWorld Expo. I was impressed that they invited the women at BlogWorld Expo to kick off their new CarWoo service. CarWoo! is the best way to buy your new car. You’ll get the car you want at a great price, save a ton of time, and you won’t have to sacrifice your sanity. I don’t know about you? But every time my husband even mentions the words new and car in the same sentence I cringe!!! CarWoo is hoping to change that.

So, what does this all have to do with the World Series and Breast Cancer? CarWoo! is currently running a campaign to raise funds for the Susan G. Komen foundation during the World Series. CarWoo bought a ’78 Camaro and painted a bright pink stripe down the center. They rolled it up to the second World Series game in San Francisco last Thursday. They got hundreds of Giants fans to sign the car and donate for Breast Cancer Research. CarWoo is going to drive the Camaro down to Texas to get Rangers fans in on the action. Whichever team’s fans donate the most will receive the donation to the Susan G. Komen foundation chapter in their city.

You do not have to be in San Fran or Dallas to donate to this cause. You can go to the CarWoo site and donate to help either city. Follow their progress and see more pictures of the car and fans. Be sure to spread the word about by sharing this story on Twitter and Facebook.

Strength, Hope and Fearlessness T-Shirts For Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer has taken the lives of so many wonderful women. I often feel helpless when I hear about someone I know who has been affected by this horrible disease.

One item on my bucket list is to participate in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. I discovered the Race for the Cure about 12 years ago when I was involved in the Mother’s & More group. Due to conflicts, I will not be able to participate in DC’s Race for the Cure this year, but I still wanted to help spread the word.

Hanes Honors Those Affected by Breast Cancer

In May we honor our mothers and it’s a wonderful time to remember those who are affected by breast cancer. The survivors, the husbands, the children, the friends and the parents and those who have lost their battle with breast cancer. Hanes has partnered with the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure to become the official T-shirt for the race. All race participants will receive a Hanes T-shirt.

Strength, Hope and Fearlessness

One of my favorite actresses, Melina Kanakaredes of CSI:NY has designed three Hanes T-shirts as part of the Passionately Pink for the Cure campaign. The T-shirts come in 2 shades of pink, black & white and show strength, hope and fearlessness for those affected by breast cancer. In exchange for this post, Hanes is sending me the pink Hope T-shirt and will send the same T-shirt to one of my readers. (details of contest at the end). Melina will also participate in several public service announcements sponsored by Hanes to increase awareness of breast cancer.

You Can Help Hanes Spread the Word

To help Hanes spread the word about breast cancer, here are some things you can do:

Check to see if there is a Race for the Cure in your area and get a team together to participate.
Purchase the new Hanes Pink socks, which are available at Wal-Mart.
The Hanes Pink collection (t-shirts, socks, undies and bras) will be available online at the Hanes Pink for the Cure store.
Visit the Hanes Pink website to design your own T-shirt, learn more about the project and see a video message from Melina.
“Like” the Hanes Facebook Page and share with your Facebook friends.

How Do you PINK? Gal to Gal Virtual Walk

This past Saturday, I ran a 5k with my family, so I’m all about the walking and running this week. I heard about a Gal to Gal Virtual Walk to raise money for breast cancer and I had to join in. For $5, I create a virtual walker (looks a bit like me I think) and she is now walking the country with a bunch of other wonderful virtual people. How cool is that?

Click on the picture, create your own virtual walker and walk with me. It is a $5 donation and you can join the “How do you PINK?” team.

How Do You PINK? Week 2

I’ve teamed up with a fabulous group of women to join the Breast Cancer Awareness month campaign. Each day we will do a “How do you PINK?” post. Below is the schedule. Be sure to stop by everyone’s blog and join our MckLinky with your “How do you PINK?” post.

I’m a day late (and probably a dollar short too). We have been fighting this flu bug in our house for 4 weeks now. The doctor says it’s H1N1, but he isn’t testing us. But just about the time everyone is well for about 4 days and I think we are over it, BAM…someone gets sick. Yesterday my 6 yr old had a fever and my stomach and head were all messed up.

Honestly, I have a difficult time writing about breast cancer mostly because I have not had it affect my life personally. Last Friday, I took over @banteringblonde‘s MomActive Blog Talk Radio show. I did some research about breast cancer and I was really surprised at some of the statistics and information:

In 2009, there will be over 190,000 new cases of breast cancer and over 40,000 women will die of breast cancer
Breast cancer is a random disease. It does NOT always run in families
95% of the women with breast cancer are over the age of 40
1 in 8 women will get breast cancer

Those numbers just seemed enormous to me, but what really scared me the most?

Breast cancer is a random disease.

I always thought that because no one on either side of my family had breast cancer, I was safe. I guess not.

How do you PINK?

I have been very lucky that I do not know anyone close to me who has died of breast cancer. I do know of several woman who have had breast cancer and beat it.

Now that I am 42, I am supposed to get a mammogram, but for some reason I have been putting it off. The year I turned 40 was when I had my hysterectomy, so I used that as an excuse. Now, i’m not sure why I haven’t gone. But this month with all of the awareness of breast cancer, it has reminded me that I need to JUST DO IT.

So, why is it that we, women put this stuff off? Are we afraid of what we’ll find out? Are we too busy? I do know that I’m going to feel much worse if I finally go, they find something and I could have done something sooner. So, I need to just DO IT.

Y’all need to tweet me a daily reminder and if you are due for your mammogram, Just DO IT!
