What is a Crayola ColorStudio for iPad?

The Crayola ColorStudio for iPad is a combination of an iPad app and a stylus. The stylus is the size of a big Crayola marker so it’s perfect for little kids hands. My 7, 8 & 12-year-olds all loved using it. I think the idea of coloring with a “marker” on the iPad is exciting for kids.

Crayola ColorStudio for iPad App

You can buy the Crayola ColorStudio for iPad app for free from the App store. You do not need the Crayola stylus to use the app. My kids played with it using their fingers and enjoyed it. By purchasing the stylus, you unlock a lot more of the tools and it is a lot more fun.

Several options when you purchase the stylus and unlock more.

Crayola ColorStudio for iPad Stylus

I bought the Crayola ColorStudio for iPad pen for $29. It was worth the $29. My kids fight over who gets to use it next. It’s great for long car rides.

The Crayola ColorStudio for iPad stylus turns on (which is important because we didn’t realize that when we first tried it out and we though we had a bad one.) You will see lights changing colors when it is on.

There is a cover for the tip, but we found that the cover doesn’t stay on very well. The tip looks like a marker, but it’s not. It feels like a hollow rubber piece and my kids have had no problems getting it to work with the app.

Angry Birds Rio, The Game

The Rio movie was the perfect setting for an Angry Birds game. In Angry Birds Rio, the original Angry Birds are kidnapped and taken to Rio. They escape and plan to save their friends, Blue and Jewel. The new Angry Birds Rio launched with 60 dedicated levels and more content will be released via app updates. This sounds like endless hours of exotic Angry Birds adventures and challenges.

Angry Birds Rio is available now on the brand new Amazon App store for Android and on Apple’s iTunes.

Rio, The Movie

Rio is a movie from the makers of the ICE AGE series about a domesticated Macaw, Blu. It seems this Macaw lives in a small town in Minnesota and never learned to fly. Linda, his owner (and best friend) find out about another Macaw living in Rio de Janeiro. They head to Rio to find Jewel (the other Macaw), but Rio & Jewel are kidnapped by bird smugglers. These two angry birds have quite an adventure in Rio.

Rio will be released in theaters worldwide on April 15, 2011.

Angry Birds Levels

I really did not understand the Angry Birds game until last night. Honestly, it didn’t look hard at all (HA HA!!!) Don’t let the first few levels fool you. The game takes strategy and skill. My 6 year old daughter and I set out to release those Angry Birds in each level. We had to discuss our plan of action to get all the birds cages to fall and release the birds. Then somehow we had to get the red, blue & yellow birds to do what we wanted them to do. We figured out that each bird has differing degrees of power & speed. So anyone that tells you that Angry Birds is time wasted has not strategically set forth to conquer each level.

You will need to update your Mac iOS to version 10.6.6 if you would like to use the App Store. You will find the App Store under the apple in the upper left corner of your desktop as seen in the screen print here:

It will open up and you will see something similar to this:

There are both paid and free apps and they are split out by categories. There are not anywhere near as many apps as there are for the iPhone, but it has a very good start.

Evernote

If you have not tried Evernote (link to App Store), I recommend you download it now. It’s free!

As you can see below, the newest and most popular are first. You can search by category or see lists of Top Paid, Top Free and Top Grossing apps.

iWork and iLife Purchases

One of the coolest things about the App Store is that now you can download iMovie, iPhoto and GarageBand separately (links are to the App Store). I never use GarageBand, but I’ve always had to buy the full iLIfe version so I can update iPhoto & iMovie. The same goes for the iWork applications.

You can buy Pages, Keynote and Numbers (link to App Store) separately now. A lot of Mac software developers are offering their software here at the App Store for easy purchase, download and updates.

App Store Updates

At the very top of the App Store, you’ll see Updates (last icon). Whenever there is an update to software you have downloaded, you will see a number there (for the number of apps that need updating). You can click on “update all” and it’s a very easy update.

I like the App Store because it makes it so easy to find software for the Mac. It is all categorized with reviews. If you have a Mac, go check it out.

This picture was taken at Dulles airport last Friday when we returned from Atlanta. I love that colored wall. I have to take a picture of it every time I see it. It’s a glass wall all lit up with rainbow colored lights. It makes me happy and adding a cat to the top just looked like fun. Now I have to add cats to every picture. I can’t figure out why the cat paint app is so much fun, but if you have an iPhone, try it. It’s only .99 and tons of fun.
