I went through my entire life never really having a favorite color. I used to pretend it was pink or yellow or purple just because i really wanted a favorite color. My friends would be so passionate about a color and buy everything in that color. They always knew which crayon to pull out of the box first. When they went shopping, they knew exactly which shirt to try on first. I didn’t.
Colors always fascinated me, but I couldn’t narrow it down to just one. I used all the colors in the box. I had to try on all the shirts to see which color looked best on me. My bedroom was yellow, which at the time I didn’t realize it, but did suit me perfectly. Yellow is a creative color. I never thought of myself as creative when I was young. I’m not sure I really believe it now. However, my first scrapbook room was yellow. Yellow was not my favorite color.
Colorstrology
Then a few years ago, i found this website, Colorstrology. I didn’t think too much of it. My birthday is August 30th so of course I looked up my color.
Of all the dang blasted colors in the crayon box, mine was Orange. Now, I said I didn’t have a favorite color, but I never said I didn’t have a color I detested, because I did. I HATE, yes not dislike, not “prefer other colors,” I HATE orange. I was really disappointed and just moved on.
One of the big reasons I hate orange is because it reminds me of Fall and Halloween. I’m a Sumer girl and Fall is rather depressing to me. I do not like scary movies or stories or even being scared. I have a vivid enough imagination so I don’t need to watch a horror movie. Orange reminded me of both of those things…Fall and Halloween.
Orange, Orange Everywhere
I started to notice the color orange everywhere. It’s as if I was seeing the color for the first time. I didn’t realize how often I really preferred orange. It felt comfortable. When I tried the orange shirt on, it looked really good on me. I went for the orange crayon first in the box. Ok, no, not really. I don’t really color anymore, but that just sounded like it needed to be said here to complete my story.
I finally had a favorite color. As you can see from my blog, I’ve decided to embrace it rather than fight it. You’ll see me wear orange quite often. I do usually choose a brighter shade than the Jaffa Orange of my birthday color. So, to make this long story just a tad longer, I was messing around with a demo version of Pixelmator and I created this in commemoration of my favorite color.
Meaning of Orange
According to the Color Wheel Pro website, the meaning of orange is:
Orange combines the energy of red and the happiness of yellow. It is associated with joy, sunshine, and the tropics. Orange represents enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attraction, success, encouragement, and stimulation.
It all fits now. I’m a summer girl, full of energy in the summer. Orange combines both my energy and my love of the sunshine, tropics and summer. So, why did they pick orange for Halloween?? That’s another post, I guess!
Kind of a silly picture, but it made me feel really happy to create it. That also makes me a creative person.

Giveaway
Because it is spring and I’m starting to come out of my winter hibernation, I’m going to do a little giveaway. I want to order this from the Colorstrology website for myself.
Complete the color assignment above by either writing a blog post about your Colorstrology and leave me a link in the comments or just write about it in the comments below. On April 15, 2010 at 11pm EDT, I will randomly choose one winner and I will purchase the Colorstrology booklet for your month and ship it to you. U.S. Only Please.
disclosure: I have nothing to do with the Colorstrology website. I am purchasing the prize with my own money and shipping to you, just because I love color and I want to hear what everyone’s experience is with their Colorstrology.

Okay. My color does not feel like me at all. It's called Saxony Blue and it is like gray-blue. I guess there is a difference in what colors you like and what colors you like to wear. I wear very neutral colors (black, white, gray) and I'm drawn to earthy tones (greens, browns). When I look for color, I gravitate towards orange, red, and purple. NEVER yellow. And not blue very often. But the description is me: explorer, activist, writer. "People love to be around your curiosity and intelligence". It is supposed to be a calming, balancing color. I will say that before my son was born, I had a room very similar to this color. It was where I retreated to play piano. And I loved the color because it was so different. Alas, my son came along, the room turned into a nursery, and the walls were painted Broome (a fancy name for tan).

So, it seems that even though it's not your favorite color, the color is soothing for you?
