Run Your First Marathon Book Review

I’m deep in the middle of my half marathon training and I always swore I would never run a marathon, until I read Grete Waitz & Gloria Averbuch’s Run Your First Marathon book (affiliate link). I am now considering it.

Run Your First Marathon

Motivating Book

Run Your First Marathon is different from any other running book I’ve ever read. It is very motivating with a lot of personal stories of both successes and failures. We all know that we are not always successful the first time we try something, but that doesn’t mean we need to stop trying.

The Run Your First Marathon book includes information about getting started running, training for a marathon (or other races), staying motivated, shoes, nutrition and takes you through your first race.

Who is Grete Waltz?

In case you don’t know (because I didn’t before I read the book), Grete Waltz is a nine-time winner of the New York City Marathon so she is speaking from experience. She shares much of the information that she shards with those that she coached for marathons. Sadly, Grete passed away this past April after battling cancer for several years.

Run Your First Marathon is a very easy read. I started reading it one evening and I couldn’t sleep until I was done. By the time I was done, I was convinced that not only will I be ready to run my half-marathon in September, but I can run a marathon. Something I never even imagined I would want to do.

Disclosure: I received a copy of the Run Your First Marathon paperback in exchange for this review. All opinions are 100% my own.

Run Your First Marathon on Kindle

7-11-11: I just noticed Run Your First Marathon is available on Amazon’s Kindle Store for $ .99 (yes, 99 cents.)

  1. I totally agree about this book! It helped prepare me to run my first marathon in August.
