How to Plan a Worry-Free Vacation; Summer Safety Infographic

Every year as it gets closer to my beach vacation, I think about keeping my family and my home safe while we are traveling. I want to have a worry-free vacation and since I am very active on many social media sites, I take extra precautions to help ensure we are safe.
Question To Ask Yourself
Here are some of the questions I ask myself when trying to plan a worry free vacation:
- Should I let everyone online know when and where I am on vacation?
- Should I check-in at the airport and hotels during my travel?
- Do I need extra protection on my computer while I’m traveling and connecting to public wi-fi?
- What can I do now to avoid identity theft when traveling?
Planning Worry-Free Vacation
Now that I’ve asked the questions, what do I do about it?
I can spend my time worrying or I can take precautions before I leave to ensure I have a fairly worry-free vacation. There are no 100% guarantees, but I always figure if there are some things I can do in advance, it doesn’t hurt.
What do I do?
Social Media. I will talk about an upcoming trip on social media networks, but I don’t say exactly when we will be gone.
Home. We have someone stay at our home while we are gone. Our house is never empty and that includes my big dogs!
Checking-In. If I check-in while I am gone, I will share it with only my close family. Often when you see my posts, I am already home. I can go back and change the settings to share with more friends once I am home. Or I will just upload all the pictures when I’m home
Credit Cards. I do not take all of my credit cards and personal information with me. I only take what I need and I keep it very close to me.
Laptop. I have a laptop that I take when I travel. It doesn’t have a lot of my personal information on it. It is small and light and perfect for uploading pictures, checking email and browsing the internet. I update the security software before I leave.
Mobile Gadgets. I only take the absolute necessary gadgets and when out and about on our trip, I carry them in a bag which I can keep close to me all the time. If I leave anything in the hotel, it goes into the safe or at least is hidden.
Identity Theft. I use Identity Guard & kID Sure to help protect my family from identity theft and I will be alerted to certain activity involving my personal information. (See disclosure below.)
Taking these extra precautions means I have a few less things to worry about. We will never have a completely worry-free vacation, but I’d rather worry about which summer shorts to bring or which beach to go to than whether someone is going to steal my identity.
