LiveOn Rewind is Easy Peasy

First, you need to go to the LiveOn Rewind site and decide which plan works best for you. Either you pay in advance and they will send you a box or you use your own box and ship your photos and video to LiveOn Rewind. Here is the chain of events I went through to get my photos digitized.

1. I had LiveOn Rewind send me a box which took about 5 days from the time I ordered it until I received the box.

2. While I was waiting for the box, I got out my boxes of photos and chose about 300 to send to LiveOn Rewind to digitize.

3. I received the box along with a plastic bag. I put my photos in the plastic bag (for extra protection against moisture) and put them in the box provided by LiveOn Rewind. They included a prepaid sticker to send the box back to them.

4. Once they received the box and started digitizing my photos, I received this email.

The photo is the first photo they digitized.

5. When they completed digitizing my photos, they sent them back along with a DVD with all my photos. The photos will be preserved online using your LiveOn account.

6. Be sure to dispose of things like credit cards or old IDs in a safe way.

Being A TWIN

Being a TWIN gives me the opportunity to share my personal experiences with the Toyota brand with you and with Toyota. The TWIN consists of 25 women and we take part weekly in a discussion forum with Toyota employees and executives. We have opportunities to ask questions and to learn more about the brand. 

Why Toyota?

So, why did I choose Toyota? In my lifetime, I have had 10 – 12 Toyotas. I remember some time in the late 70s, my parents bought 2 brand new Toyotas. One was a Toyota Tercel and the other was a small station wagon type of vehicle and I don’t remember the model. It may have been a Tercel too. But those cars are the first cars that I remember my parents buying.

When I went into high school the Toyota Tercel became the car I drove to school every day. That car was passed down to my sister and she drove it until it died and wouldn’t go anymore which was sometime in the late 80s.

My First Car

When I bought my first car while in college it was a Toyota Corolla. My Dad went with me to the dealer and he did the negotiating. I was so proud of that car. I made the monthly payment and took care of all the maintenance.

1997 Toyota Camry and 1998 Toyota Corolla. Our first 2 cars we bought together after we were married.

Whenever I think of Toyotas, it brings back a lot of great memories of my family. When Jason and I met, we both owned small Toyota trucks. We knew it was meant to be. We have continued that Toyota tradition after we started our own family.

who?Comics On The iPad

The who?Comics is an iPhone & iPad app which takes the biographies of currently popular figures and turns them into comics for your children 8 and up to read.

I have found comics a great way to get kids to read books that they normally would not find interesting. My 8-year-old never liked to read books because he gets overwhelmed by all the words and would tell himself he can’t read it before he even started reading. With comics, the words are not overwhelming and he just digs right in and starts reading.

Biography Comics for Kids

My 15-year-old son read the J.K. Rowling and Bill Gates biography comics. He had a difficult time getting into the biography comics. He loves comics, but he said they were very difficult to read and he didn’t find them interesting. He said he didn’t really remember much of what he read because they were a difficult read. He did love the timeline feature at the end of each comic.

The biography comics are from a Korean company and they are working on making the translations to english much smoother. I think that now, the comics feel very choppy and we ran into a passages in each comic where we really were not sure what they were trying to say. This is definitely still a work-in-progress.

My 12-year-old daughter started to read the J.K. Rowlings and Warren Buffet comics and after about 10 minutes she said she could not read anymore. In her defense, she generally does not like comics as much as her brothers do. She said she found the comics very difficult to read

J.K. Rowlings Biography Comics

My 8-year-old son loved the who?Comics. We read the J.K. Rowlings biography comic. I did have to sit with him and explain a lot of it to him. There were some topics that I had to explain further, such as, when J.K. Rowlings mother was sick, my son wanted to know a lot more about that. We completed the comic and he did like it a lot.

My Thoughts On who?Comics

Overall, I think the who?Comics biography comics are a good tool for kids to read about their heroes, but they need a lot of work before they are completely ready for kids.

Each one of my kids felt the comics were too long and told parts of the person’s life that they didn’t think was necessary. I would also read each comic before you let your child read them to be sure it’s appropriate for your child.

It got me really excited about all their new products (and sad that I can not see them in person) Because it was such a spectacular s show and it’s on YouTube, so I’m including a link to the full press conference. Follow CES 2012 From Home

• Our gadgets are getting smarter and more interactive.
• TVs will be voice and motion controlled, so no more searching for the remote.
• Not only will we communicate with our gadgets, but our gadgets communicate with each other.
• Wifi built into many of our gadgets.

Here are some highlights from the CES Press Day of the technology that will enhance your life.

LG  Electronics Press Conference

The 3D TVs from LG are exciting, but I’m still not convinced that I need a 3D television. But more about that later.

I’m more excited about the appliances that LG introduced. The refrigerator with Blast Chiller is exciting. the Blast Chiller chills a can of soda in less than 5 minutes or a bottle of wine in less than 8 minutes.

Then there are the smart appliances with LG’s Thinq technology.

• Your refrigerator can talk to your oven. You choose a recipe from the ingredients you have on hand in your refrigerator and the fridge will turn the oven on to the required temperature.
• While you are the grocery store, you can check to see if you are out of something in the fridge or if it’s expired. Scan the items in with your smart phone when you buy an item and put it in your fridge. You can create a grocery list right on the screen on the fridge and place your order with your grocery store.
• Each member of the your family can start a profile and keep track with the Health Manager. The fridge can recommend recipes or menus based on your profile.
• You can check the status of your laundry in the washer or dryer right from your LG smart phone.
• Start your Smart vacuum cleaner before you get home.
• All your LG smart devices are able to talk to each other.

LG also announced a Google TV which I thought was interesting. I thought Google TV was on its way out.

Intel Press Conference

Intel was all about the Ultrabooks. Intel plans to “own” the Ultrabook market.

In the usual Intel style, they put on a show. Here is how the “show” began (YouTube Link):

What Consumers Want!

Intel made a few comments about what consumers want and I thought they were right on (paraphrased).

• To be always connected
• Not wait for technology
• Peace of mine (security)
• Interactive technology
• Technology to be small, sleek & sexy
• We want to love our technology (and we should)
• People buy experiences, not processors

Intel & Ultrabooks

I know that when I find a gadget that makes my life easier or enhances it in some way, I’m in LOVE with it. I don’t see my technology as something that does the job, it’s so much more than that. Buying a laptop is like buying a purse. It needs to be functional and gorgeous.

• Ultrabook delivers a set of experiences that you can’t get today.
• Ultrabook buzz is high and Intel plans to tell a good story around Ultrabooks.

To show how light and thin, the Ultrabooks are, Toshiba created an “I was Framed” campaign and here is the video that Intel showed at their press conference:

And Intel showed off a prototype of some future Ultrabooks with really interesting features. One has a transparent touch pad so when it’s closed, you can see through to the touch pad and use it like a tablet with Windows 8 on it. You have to see it to believe it:

It will be interesting to watch the future of the Ultrabook. Personally, I want one!!

Samsung Press Conference

I really enjoyed the Samsung press conference. It got me really excited about all their new products (and sad that I can not see them in person.) Because it was such a spectacular s show and it’s on YouTube, I’m including the full press conference. (the good stuff starts around the 10 minute mark)

Panasonic Press Conference

Here is the thing about press conferences. When you wait until the end to drop a bomb on the audience, we forget what happened before. I honestly can not remember what Panasonic debuted during their press conference, but I do remember that they are integrating myspace into their TVs to make watching TV more social. Yep, you heard me….myspace

I also remember that they are releasing all of the 007 James Bond movies in Blu-Ray boxed set.

Panasonic is also promoting living a green lifestyle and would like to be the leader of green innovation in the technology industry by their 100th anniversary in 2018.

Panasonic is also partnering with NBC Sports to bring the 2012 Summer Olympics in 3D. That may be enough to get me to buy a 3D television. We bought our HD TV in 2004 because the Summer Olympics were being broadcast in HD and I wanted to see them in HD. 3D would be AWESOME.

Panasonic is also banking on 3D being a big seller this year. As I said before, I’m not convinced yet. We own 2 Panasonic Viera HD TVs. We purchased our last one in the last year and we chose not to buy 3D.

• Easier to use
• Integrated with other Panasonic Smart devices
• Saves energy

Skype Communication Device – Small monitor for Skype only. Very simple to use and easy to take with you around the house.

Tough Pad – Rugged tablet built to work with your Panasonic Viera TV.

This was a really tough press conference to watch. They introduced a lot, but it didn’t really excite me. It felt very forced and if they are not excited about their products, then neither will the consumers be excited about the products.

Panasonic is also doing a lot of LIVE streaming from their booth. You can see it at the Panasonic USA Ustream page.

SONY Press Conference #SonyCES

Sony’s press conference was exciting. I felt their enthusiasm for their products. Some of the stats:

• 900 million Sony devices
• Will deliver 300 million new connected devices in the next 3 years
• 100 award nominations for Sony productions
• Pope Benedict uses the Sony Tablet S (that is quite an endorsement)
• 6.5 million PlayStation units across all devices sold over Holiday season
• Sold 1/2 Million units as of 1/5/12

Sony has a stake in every aspect including the content, devices to create the content and the device to view the content

Play. Watch. Listen. Share. on many devices.

Sony Entertainment Network – One common ID and wallet on any of Sony’s devices.

Video Unlimited – available on all of Sony’s devices for viewing videos and available a month earlier than on other platforms.

Sound Stickers Uses

With the Sound Stickers and a Livescribe pen, you can record your voice and play it back anywhere. Here are some ideas:

• Put stickers on all the pages of a book, record your voice reading the pages and your children can play it back by clicking on the stickers. They can listen to you read the book to them anytime.
• Put the stickers on your scrapbook pages and leave messages for your kids in their scrapbooks.
• Make interactive flash cards. This would be great for learning foreign languages where hearing the word will help you tremendously.
• Leave notes with instructions for your family.
• Add notes to a book. I always get ideas from books and now I can add a sticker and record a quick note.
• Make kid’s chore charts interactive with your complete instructions on a sticker.

The ideas are endless. The stickers are re-recordable and require a Livescribe pen (version 2.7 software) to record and play back.

I plugged in the Microsoft Touch Mouse, installed the software and watched the demo. Interesting! I spent the next few hours trying the mouse out. It took some getting used to, but now I really like it. The motions are different from any mouse I’ve used. There are 1, 2, & 3 finger gestures both vertically & horizontally.

This video is a good demo of the Touch Mouse.

I really like the way it feels in my hand. It fits perfectly and the dots on the mouse give it a nice texture. My biggest problem was that I would forget that I could do things on the mouse and I would do them the way I normally do. For example, the maximize and minimize of windows. I keeping using the square and x and not sweeping 2 fingers up or down.
