When the Luminess Airbrush Makeup system arrived, my 13-year-old daughter was all over it. Finally, she said…a gadget for makeup! She wanted to try it out because she has had a hard time with foundation blending on her skin. So I let her try it out first. She spent several hours watching the videos online, mixing colors to get the perfect match and practicing with the airbrush wand.

This is the picture I took of Sami before she started.

We received the Professional Luminess Airbrush Makeup Edition which includes the 3-speed Professional Airbrush system, several bottles of foundation, blush, moisturizer, bronzer, glow enhancer, eyeshadow duo and the learning DVD. Our DVD was in spanish, so we went to the internet and watched the following videos.

Airbrush Makeup Prepping

The first video is a basic introduction.

The second video shows you how to match the foundation to your skin color. Sami and I both needed a mix of 1 and 2 to match our skin tone perfectly.

The last video shows you how to apply the makeup. We found it easiest to watch the video a few times first. Then prepare your kit and watch the video while you are applying the makeup for the first time. Be sure the area is well-lit. This was the first mistake I made when I applied the makeup. I didn’t have a well-lit bathroom and the makeup didn’t look right. But when I moved to a bathroom with better lighting, the difference was huge. It looked much better.

She was so happy with the results. She didn’t look like she had foundation on and she had no problems with blending at the hairline and her jawline.

Luminess Airbrush Tips

Here are a few notes that Sami said I had to include in the review:

• A bit of the foundation goes a long way. You do not need much.
• Practice, practice, practice. She said it did take a few tries to get it right, but once she did, it is so easy.
• Watch the videos!!! We need to admit that we did try to do this at first without really watching the videos very closely. Don’t try that!! You need the videos. They help a ton!
• How you hold the wand makes a big difference when you are putting it on. Be sure to follow the directions and hold like a pencil.
• The airbrush is really easy to clean and be sure you do it after you use it every time.

Now Sami is ready to try the airbrush tanning system because she loved the Luminess Airbrush Makeup so much.  Here is one last side by side of the before and after of Sami.

So, this summer, my 13 & 16-year-old and I are heading to Philly to the Digital Family Summit and speaking on a panel. I am so excited about speaking with my kids about vlogging as a family.

My kids are very involved in my blogging and vlogging. They are either in front of the camera or behind it. My 16-year-old wants to be a film producer and he has worked on several films already. He has created youtube videos since he was 9.

Digital Family Summit; I’m Speaking With My Teen & Tween (+Giveaway) originally posted at Scraps of My Geek Life.

Seriously? You didn’t wash the chocolate off your face and you are still wearing the same shirt you’ve had on since Sunday?

That is something I would never say *wink* as we were rushing from soccer practice to dance and eating fast food for the 3rd time in a week.

How many times, before you were a parent, did you swear that you would NEVER let your kids leave the house with hair all knotted & frizzy, a dirty face and filthy clothes? Now that you have kids, you are happy if they are wearing clothes when you leave the house. My kids may be unkempt, but the one thing I NEVER leave my house without is my smartphone.

LG Viper 4G LTE Smartphone

For the last few days I have been testing the LG Viper 4G LTE smart phone. Having this smart phone with me all the time gives me access to:

• My email where I’ll find all the information about soccer and dance practice.
• My calendar where I’ll find the schedule of all 6 family members.
• My address book where I’ll find the address of my kid’s friends, the soccer field and everyone/thing else we know/go to.
• My cloud storage which holds all the important documents I may need while at soccer, grocery store, doctor or my kid’s school.
• My Google Wallet so that when I forget my purse (I told you…I don’t leave home without my phone…quite often I forget the purse) I can still pay.
• My Life’s Good Fairytales app which occupies my children for hours when we are sitting in the doctor’s office waiting room
• ….and a ton of other apps…

From the moment I wake up when I look at my LG Viper to see what the weather will be like today, through out my day and when I go to bed to set my alarm for the next morning, my LG Viper has been the assistant every parent needs.

Google Wallet

Google Wallet is the coolest paying app I have ever seen and it comes preloaded on the LG Viper. I used to tell my kids that we couldn’t buy that new Lego set because I forgot my wallet. Um…not anymore. Because, as I said, my LG Viper smart phone is always with me, so, Google Wallet is also always with me.

How does Google Wallet work? Google Wallet app comes preloaded on your LG Viper. The best part?  You don’t even have to open the app to pay using your phone. Just tap your phone on the reader and your phone sends payment to the store using your default form of payment (unless you direct otherwise.) You can check where Google Wallet works before you hit the mall. Be sure to look for these symbols so you know that store accepts Google Wallet.

Then, log into your account and you are done. It could not be any simpler to make a purchase either online or offline. And many merchants offer extra discounts when you use Google Wallet. You can find those right in the Google Wallet app.

Life’s Good Fairytales App

Do you remember skipping words or even pages in books when you read to your kids at bedtime when they were little? When they learned to read I couldn’t do that anymore.

I have a really fun solution for fun and short bedtime stories, Life’s Good Fairytales. The full Android app is available for free on Google Play through May 25, 2012. Full details at the LG Viper page.

This is a bedtime story where you and your kids become characters in the story. Add your face to 1 of 6 stories and as you read the story, you will be a character in the story. You are also asked several questions and your answers become part of the stories. These are so much fun because it is never-ending stories.

Each time you add a different face and different answers, you change the story a bit. Great for bedtime stories and always works great when you are stuck somewhere and the kids get bored. Have them ask the questions to another person and treat it like Mad Libs and take pictures of each other with silly faces to add to the stories. So much fun!!

LG Viper Final Word

Overall, the LG Viper is the first Android phone that I have used that I really like. It is small and easy to slip in your pocket, but big enough to be able to see your email and photos. It has an awesome camera to take pictures of my kids. I love documenting the everyday moments of our lives and having a good camera on my phone is really important.

I definitely recommend the LG Viper 4G and be sure to download Life’s Good Fairytales and Google Wallet.

Horses 3DSwill let you live out your dream of owning a horse. I remember wanting a horse when I was a little girl. I even took horse-back riding lessons, but it was winter in Wisconsin, so the lessons were inside. That was when we discovered I was allergic to hay. Had to nix the lessons.

The summer after I graduated from college, I went on a family vacation and we all rode horses. My horse was spooked by something, bucked up and threw me off. I landed on my tailbone and right hand. Broke my tailbone and my wrist. So, horses and I haven’t had a great relationship.

Playing Horses 3DS

When I got the Ubisoft Horses 3DS game, I started playing the game thinking that I would play it for a bit and then work. Well 3 hours later, I was still playing Horses. The game is soooo much fun.

You are the Stable Manager so you need to be sure the horses have everything they need and train them to race in 4 different types of horse races. Honestly, I am not very good at the racing part.

I love going after the hoof marks down the paths and collecting stars. Sometimes you ride alone and sometimes a friend will go along. The rides will usually have a mission like, collect all the stars and ride faster than your friend.

Horses 3DS & My Girls

My 13-year-old was a bit hesitant to play it because she thought it would be a game for little girls. I asked her to please play it so I could get her opinion of the game for my review. She loved it. She makes sure no one plays her game because she loves it so much.

My 8-year-old heard us discussing Horses and of course she wanted to play too. She is currently hiding somewhere with the 3DS because she doesn’t want anyone to take it from her.

So, the game is fun for an 8-year-old, 13-year-old and even a 44-year-old girl. My boys didn’t want to play it, so it is definitely for girls.

I’m taking this opportunity to educate my 4 kids about online password safety and here are 9 tips I’m sharing with them.

Online Password Safety Tips

1. Do not use real words. If you create a password like, “videokid,” that is too easy to figure out especially if you love video games. This would be better, “1v5i3d8e8o5k1i7d.” I added a number between each letter.

2. Do not use your name. VideoMatt is a horrible password. You should never use your name in a password…EVER!

3. Do not use the name of the website or software. If you are creating a password for Facebook, using videoFacebook or even videoFB is not a good password.

4. Do not use your birthday. This is too easy to figure out. Your friends know this information and it is just too easy to figure out.

Giving out your password could make you a victim of cyberbullying.

5. Do not share your password with anyone. This includes your best friend. It may seem like an innocent thing to do, but it is never a good idea. Once someone has your password, there is a lot they can do with your account. The only person who should every know any of your passwords is your parents. When someone goes online with your password and pretends to be you, that is another form of cyberbullying.

6. Do not write down all your passwords and keep them in your wallet or purse. If someone were to steal your wallet or you lose it, they will have access to everything. When I write down passwords, I keep them in a place where no one will expect them to be.

7. Do not use the same password for every site. If you use the same password and one of your passwords is compromised, then they will have access to your information everywhere.

8. Use a combination of small and capital letters, numbers and characters. A great password would be, ak380KA36. If you are concerned about remembering your password, think of a saying or quote that you like. Create a password using the 3rd letter of every word and add a number in-between the letters. The password will mean something to you, but not to anyone else.

9. Be sure to change your passwords often. On social media sites and email, I change my password monthly. For sites I do not use as often, I change them every 6 months.

Knowing how to create a secure password is an important child identity theft tip. One that is often overlooked, but online password safety is a first line of defense against identity theft.

The Acer Iconia W500  tablet at 2.4 lbs is a heavier than other tablets I’ve tested, but it is still easy to carry with you anywhere. I carried it with me to a weekend vacation, dance lessons, carpooling, shopping and soccer games and it never got too heavy to carry.  I tried it both with the keyboard dock and without.

One of the apps I’m most excited about is a brand new one called Adobe Muse. Muse will help you create websites without writing one word of code. Ahhhh!! I love that! I can not wait to get my hands on Adobe Muse.

Adobe Touch Apps

There are several Adobe Touch apps available for tablets that are in the Creative Cloud membership. Adobe Photoshop Touch is available now for the iPad & Android tablets. I have used the iPad version and it makes editing on the iPad fun and easy. There is so much you can do.

Currently, if you sign up for one year, the cost is $49.99/month. Considering all the software that is available, that is a bargain. I do not know if there are any limits to the number of apps you can use or how often you use it.

I think Pinterest is a perfect tool for just about any brand because it is very visual. You can describe something to me in explicit detail, but show me a picture and I’m hooked. Here are some of the tech companies on Pinterest with enough pins to tell a story.

Adobe Systems

Adobe is a very visual company since they created software for photos, video and designing. It makes perfect sense that they have boards about photography and design. Their Creative Workspaces board shows how their love of design is not limited to their software.

AMD

AMD has well-rounded and interesting Pinterest boards. Everything from laptops, accessories to spring flowers. You do not need to limit your pins to just your products. Add life to your company by pinning about life! AMD shows us that technology will not take over our lives because we can still enjoy the Spring flowers.

Another very active tech brand on Pinterest. Animoto has a lot of examples of the videos they make for many occasions. Need an idea for a Mother’s Day video? Animoto has a board for that. They also have other fun boards about their team and unique videos to make with their product.

Atomic Reach

Atomic Reach is all about bringing brands and bloggers together in a content community online, so it makes senses that they pin about different brands, social media and content marketing. Atomic Reach shows off their different communities (tribes) with Pinterest boards.

CNET

CNET’s Pinterest boards are all about technology and tips on how to use it. They include everything from old school technology to prototypes. CNET covers it all and you will find all the awesome technology here. They have broken it down into boards that will make it easier to find what you want like Kitchen Tech, Headphones, Tablets, etc.

Cozi

Cozi has a lot of boards that will show you ways to keep your family organized, plan meals, homeschool and even make us laugh or cry. These are all the activities that you would be using Cozi to help you do (well, hopefully not cry.) Brilliant use of Pinterest to show off the Cozi brand.

Crowdbooster

Crowdbooster‘s boards show what life is like at Crowdbooster. It puts a personal spin on the company.

Dell

Dell has not pinned a lot, but what they have shows that the brand is about more than just its computers. They have boards about entrepreneurship and lifestyle and showing off Dell’s family history.

GetGlue

The GetGlue boards are so much fun. GetGlue is an app where you check into TV shows you are watching and earn badges. GetGlue has created a board for some of the shows and show you the badges you can earn. It is so pretty. I love looking at the boards and it makes me want to use GetGlue more.

Groupon

Groupon has an interesting Pinterest board about working at Groupon. I love that idea. The Groupon boards make me want to go to Groupon and buy a travel getaway package! Their boards give me a sense of some of the deals I will find on Groupon.

HubSpot

HubSpot has a lot of pins for marketing and social media information. Infographics look so gorgeous on Pinterest (and they get repinned a lot.) They include boards about the different services and software they offer also. My favorite HubSpot board is “I HubSpot Because…” where customers can share their stories.

KidzVuz

If you have tweens, then you are going to love KidzVuz Pinterest boards. KidzVuz is a site where tweens can review products and upload videos. Their Pinterest boards show some of the cool tween products that are available. Great place for tween gift ideas.

Kingston Technology

Kingston Technology has Pinterest boards showing off their latest products and the best way to use it. They have also included reviews of their products in one board. Showing off some of your past products gives us a reminder of how far we have come with technology and is always fun.

Klout

Klout has included many pictures from events that Klout has hosted. You get to know the company and their team when you view their Pinterest boards.  Klout Perks is one of the benefits of having Klout, so they have a whole board dedicated to the Klout Perks. This includes photos from bloggers who have received Klout Perks. Including infographics about your industry or brand is a great visual way to give information.

Kodak

Kodak goes about social media a bit differently than the usual. Instead of having one Kodak account without a face, they have Jenny who is the Chief Blogger & Social Media Manager. There are also several other Kodak employees with accounts on Pinterest, but I’m focusing on Jenny’s account.

She has many boards showing off the different ways you can use pictures in projects and products. She also reminds us why we want to take pictures with several of her boards about pregnancy, babies, weddings and holidays. Kodak has a good blend of showing off their company, brand and the how and why we want to use their products.

Panasonic LUMIX

The Panazonic LUMIX brand shows us the different cameras they offer and tips on how to take better photographs. I love the board which shows off their favorite photos.

Samsung Mobile US

Samsung Mobile US does more than just show us their phones. They show us how stylish we will look with their mobile device along with videos and samples of different creations from the Samsung Mobile products.

Shareaholic

Shareaholic is all about sharing and have included boards with infographics and data about sharing and using social media. These definitely show off why we would want to use Shareaholic. The majority of their customers are bloggers, so they have included a board with gift ideas for bloggers.

SkinnyScoop

SkinnyScoop is all about sharing your knowledge with lists. SkinnyScoop is a community for women and that is clear by the different topics covered on their boards.

Skype

Skype does not have a lot of pins, but the one board they have, I love. It’s called “Favorite Skype Moments,” and it includes pictures of families using Skype to stay connected. What an awesome way to really show the story of using Skype. No better way than to show you, rather than tell you.

Sony Electronics

Sony is one of my favorite tech companies on Pinterest because they are active and they are unique. Instead of just having a Sony camera board and a Sony video board, Sony has really embraced Pinterest and has awesome pictures showing examples of photos taken with their cameras and the beauty of the different colors of their products. They repin the wants of Sony fans.

Sony is a great example of clever ways to show off your brand. Their Pinterest boards tell the story of Sony. The Sony boards feed my passion for technology.

Uncommon

Uncommon offers art for your gadgets and they show off the different designs that are available. Their product is perfect for Pinterest because it is a visually pleasing product. They included an Uncommon Sightings board to show the Uncommon designs that customers have created. Customers love to see that a brand cares about its customers. Showing them off on a Pinterest board is the perfect way.

Wacom

Wacom is one of the tech companies on Pinterest with only a few boards, but I like how they have started. They show off the final products made using their Wacom tablets including digital scrapbooking projects.

Wibiya

Wibiya focuses on social media and blogging information. Showing off how fun it is to work at Wibiya is a great way to make the Wibiya brand more personal. They have included one board to show off the apps available for their Wibiya Bar, but most of their boards tell the story of their brand and give you information about why you would need their bar on your blog.

Windows on Pinterest

Windows is another very active tech brand on Pinterest. You will see boards with contests and photos showing off their products. The photos they choose for their boards are awesome, perfect eye candy. You will find the history of Windows and even some funny photos about Windows. They tell a story with their Pinterest boards.

Tech Companies On Pinterest Thoughts

There are many more tech companies on Pinterest, but they have not started pinning. It only counts if you use it. As they say about social media, they will talk about you whether you are there or not. Being active on Pinterest, will give you a great idea of what others are pinning about your tech brand on Pinterest.

Acer Iconia W500 tablet

Dockable Keyboard

The first thing that stuck out for me was that the table comes with a dockable USB keyboard, so it’s a small laptop or a tablet. The keyboard also serves as a great way to protect the tablet when you are not using it. Depending on the situation, sometimes the keyboard was easier to use and sometimes it was easier to type on the screen, but I really love the option to do either.

Portability Is A Plus

The Acer Iconia W500 tablet at 2.4 lbs is a heavier than other tablets I’ve tested, but it is still easy to carry with you anywhere. I carried it with me to a weekend vacation, dance lessons, carpooling, shopping and soccer games and it never got too heavy to carry.  I tried it both with the keyboard dock and without.

I found that the Acer Iconia W500 tablet doesn’t compare to other tablets because with the Windows 7 and cloud computing, I have access all of my files and do more work on the Acer tablet than I do on my iPad.

Speed is Important

I never had a problem with the Iconia tablet feezing or slowing down. It was very responsive to both touch, typing and a stylus. I was concerned with only 2GB of SDRAM that I would run into problems, but I never did.

Has Everything A Family Needs

With 2 webcams, 4 USB ports, SD/MMC slots and HDMI, I was able to plug the Iconia tablet into anything I needed.

1. I brought a small portable hard drive with me for a weekend trip and worked on fixing and uploading photos to Flickr.
2. With the webcams, I was able to Skype with my family right from the pool.
3. After a day of taking photos, I put my SD card right in the slot on the tablet and uploaded all of my photos and we watched them that evening on the tablet.
4. One afternoon, I took a lot of video of my kids and I used the USB port to plug my video camera into the Iconia W500 tablet and uploaded the video. The kids and I even created a few funny videos right on the tablet.
5. On a long drive, my son watched a movie he had downloaded from the internet and I heard no complaints about the picture or sound (and he usually watches movies on an HD 50″ screen.)

Tip: I purchased this JKase Ultra-Slim case for the Acer Iconia W500 tablet and it fits perfectly and the tablet is still very easy to use (without keyboard)
