So Kodak Sunday: Afternoon Bike Run with my Son

So Kodak Sunday! What is it? You can read all about it on last week’s post introducing my new weekly Sunday post, So Kodak Sunday. I will be creating a nice 125 graphic for the weekly So Kodak Sunday moment post once I figure out how I want it to look.

This past week, my 7 year old and I took an afternoon bike run. It was a beautiful day out and I really wanted to run, but I couldn’t leave Nicky home alone. He is just learning to ride his bike without training wheels and getting really good, so I asked if he wanted to join me on my run. He could ride his bike. I knew that meant I wouldn’t have the best run ever, but we would both be outside and moving our bodies.

Here are a few pictures of our adventure. Most of the time he was way ahead of me and I was having to run really fast to catch up. But the hills got him. Funny how hills don’t feel so bad in the car, but you start running or get on a bike and boy, that hill becomes a mountain.

Here I actually caught up to him for a short while. I think he really stopped so I could catch up. LOL! That bike is too small for him, but I didn’t want to invest in a new bike until he could ride well. I figured the distance to the ground was short on this bike when he falls. After our adventure, it was clear he was ready for a new bike, so we bought him one yesterday.

And to prove that I did run and wasn’t just walking behind him, a picture of me.

One last picture of the view we had. It was such a gorgeous day. We stopped by the golf course just to take some pictures and enjoy the view. There was also a really nice slightly cool breeze. It was one of those days where it’s warm, but you feel that slight chill so that you know that Fall is coming. The clouds were so puffy like big cotton balls.

I ran 3.1 miles and Nicky was so proud of himself for biking the whole time. There were several times that he wanted to give up and not go up the hill, but I wouldn’t let him. I told him he couldn’t give up because there was no way I was pushing the bike home. He made it up every hill (and enjoyed the down part of every hill). Getting him out there really boosted his confidence about riding which I knew was really what he needed.

That night, he came into my room to say goodnight for the last time before he went to sleep and he said, “Mom, I had so much fun on our run/bike today. Thank you!” That was definitely a So Kodak Sunday moment for me.

As I was writing this post, I realized that today is another beautiful day. I was planning to work all day, but I decided to ask Nicky if he wanted to go on another run/bike adventure today. He was being kind of cranky all morning and he perked up as soon as I asked. Megan decided to join us with her scooter. If it weren’t for my So Kodak Sunday moment post, that moment would be gone and done and I probably would have sat here all day ignoring my kids and working. But instead, we’ll get out for 30 minutes and then I’ll go back to ignoring them and working. :D

Write about your So Kodak Sunday moment on your blog, on Facebook or maybe create a layout. If you do, put a link to it in the comments. I’d love to see your So Kodak Sunday moment.
