Normally I stay away from politics on my blog, not because it’s controversial, but because politics don’t thrill me. But this one topic has gotten me all worked up, so I’m breaking away from tradition and writing about politics.
Why can’t I just dislike President Obama for his policies? Why do many cry racism every time many people band together and protest again Obama? I’ll admit I don’t like Obama, but it has absolutely NOTHING to do with the color of his skin. I don’t agree with his policies. And isn’t that my right? Didn’t all the soldiers fight for my right to protest against anything I don’t agree with?
No one assumed that people were protesting against Bush because he was a man. No one assumed that people wanted Clinton impeached because he was a man. We all “assumed” that it was because of their policies or actions.
Now, I will admit that there is some racism going on here, but it isn’t on the part of the person protesting. It is on the part of the person assuming the protesting has something to do with racism. They are assuming that because he is black that MUST be the reason for all the protesting.
What I think is really sad is that we still are having this conversation at all. Regardless of who is crying racism, why do we have to cry it at all? Why can’t we just stick to the good old fashion screaming match about policies? When we can do that, then we will have finally gotten rid of racism in this country.
…back to scrapbooking, gadgets and family now.

AMEN Michele — while there may be some racism involved somewhere – I am sure that has happened with white presidents as well, I mean really. This to me is a non-issue in politics.

Unfortunately, many people find excuses for others disagreeing no matter if it is race, political affiliation, sex, or religious beliefs. I'm not sure to what you are referring specifically.. but I understand what you are saying. It's on both sides of the political isle and in every community in this country. The reality is everyone feels strongly about their own beliefs and some have a hard time understanding how anyone's beliefs could conflict with their own, so they either create or truly believe it is due to race, sex, politics, or religion. This country needs to get back to civil debate and stick to debating facts. (IMHO) All of this sensationalism of half truths needs to end – no matter what party you belong to.

I wasn't really referring to one particular instance. It was more of an observation of what happens every time there are protests against an Obama policy. It usually ends up with a discussion of how they don't like him because of his color.
yes, debating the facts is what it should be all about.
