Organize Your Life Between Super Bowl Commercials

Organize your life between Super Bowl commercials. Tips for organizing your life, Project Life, blog and kids.

This Sunday, the Super Bowl commercials are on. There are only two reasons I would actually watch the game between the commercials……if the Packers or Redskins are playing. Since the Packers are not in the Super Bowl this year (and the Redskins may never be,) I’ll be focusing on the commercials.

But what do we do between the commercials? I love to enjoy the food and a drink and sit with my family during the game, but seriously, I am not really paying attention to the game.

I’ve come up with a list of things that you can do while sitting on the couch, eating snacks, enjoying a drink, enjoying good company and still jump and yell well something exciting happens. I’ve broken them down into a few categories.

So each quarter is 15 minutes + the 30 other minutes they waste between plays, so you have a few hours of time. Use it wisely!

  1. Organize your phone. Go through your phone and try apps that you downloaded and never opened. Get rid of ones that are useless.
  2. Create a family calendar and a calendar for each family member (I use Google calendar.) Set up sharing for any family members who are old enough to have their own calendar. All my kids have their own and my youngest is 10.
  3. Clean out your phone and/or tablet photos. Delete duplicates or horrible shots. Set up a backup system for your photos (I use OneDrive.)
  4. Monthly meal planning. Look for new recipes online and set up a rotating schedule of meals. Create a shopping list for each week.
  5. Go through that pile of papers you have around the house to deal with later. Deal with it now.
  6. Create a vision board. Visions board are awesome for seeing what your goals are. Seeing them visually every day can help you stay focused on your goals.

Organize Project Life Between Super Bowl Commercials

Sticking to the Project Life project for a year is much easier if you are organized. Here are some tasks you can do during Super Bowl commercials to start your Project Life on the right track.

  1. Set up a Project Life folder system on your computer. Caylee Grey has a great system that she uses and if you are on Windows, you can download her folder system for 2015.
  2. Find a kit (digital or paper) that you will use for the year. Having all the tools in one place will make it easier to sit down and work on it when you have a bit of time.
  3. Look for templates to use for your layouts. Decide if you will create daily, weekly or monthly pages and find templates.
  4. Create a Project Life Tools folder. I put the templates and kits I will be using throughout the year in the Project Life Tools folder. If I buy anything new, I add it to that folder.

Organize Your Kids Between Super Bowl Commercials

A family runs smoother if there is a plan. I know sometimes the stumbling block is the planning. Who has time to plan when you are busy living? Take this time to set up some plans.

  1. Create a chore chart. First decide what chores the kids can do. Decide how you want to divvy up the chores and set up a chore chart.
  2. Organize sock drawers. Have your kids bring you all their socks. Pair up socks and get rid of all the single socks (you won’t find them until they don’t fit.)
  3. Set up a school system. You get a lot of papers back from school and there are things you want to save every year. Set up a school days folder system for each child.
  4. Create a system for saving school pictures each year. I created a 3-ring binder folder and used page protectors. Each year, I put photos from school pictures, dance, soccer, etc into the page protectors. I label them with the year and grade. Voila! Organized.

Organize Your Blog/Social Media Between Super Bowl Commericals

I know you have tasks that you say you will do someday, but haven’t done yet. Now is the time….

  1. Organize your Pinterest boards. Find boards that have less than 10 pins and delete the board. If the pins will fit with other boards, move them. When I first create a board, I make it private and I won’t make it public until I have at least 10 pins.
  2. Update old blog posts. I have close to 1,000 posts. I know many of the old ones are useless or need to be updated. I had tutorials for apps that no longer exist…delete. Add Pinterest-worthy shareable photos to old blog posts and begin sharing again.
  3. Clean up your sidebar. Be sure your sidebar has things that will add to your blog and help your readers. This is one thing I’ll be doing on Sunday.
  4. Update your bio/about page. Be sure you have an updated photo and everything is still correct. I know this is a page I often ignore because it feels like so much work. But once it’s done, you’ll feel accomplished.
  5. Create an editorial calendar. Planning a few months ahead will give you an idea what jobs you can take and what you don’t have time for. As I said earlier, it’s always good to have a plan. Be flexible, but have a plan.
