I’m writing this from bed because I got a strange case of the flu right after lunch. I felt great this morning, ran 2 miles, took a shower, ate lunch and BAM…sick! And not only did I get sick, but I was ALONE in my house for the first time in AGES. But I can not miss writing my Happy Birthday to my son post.
My oldest turned 13 today. My Mom has always told me that it wasn’t her own age that made her feel old, but it was how old her kids were that made her feel old. I get that now. I can not be the Mom of a teenager. I am way too young and definitely not prepared.
Nathan is 13 today. WOW! (I have to keep saying it to make it real…I’m not sure why this is making me feel so old) I have to admit I was scared to death when I found out I was having a boy. I grew up with 2 sisters. What was I going to do with a boy? Well, so far he’s turned out to be a pretty good kid. I decided I’m going to keep him. LOL!
Here is my baby boy, 13 years ago:

Yes, that is Jason and I. We look so young (and innocent).

His 4th birthday. He was quite a pistol as a little kid and LOVED Power Rangers.

Birthday #5 and right before he started Kindergarten. That was a huge deal for me, sending my 1st born off to school. I’m about to send my 4th (and last) child to Kindergarten this fall.

Birthday #7 and now he is into Star Trek toys and he got glasses that year.

Birthday #9 and getting into the electronics big time.

Birthday #11 and this is the year the first Transformers movie came out. He was really into (and still is into) Legos.
And this morning, right after he got up:
Nathan – I am so proud of you. You have come so far in your 13 years and overcome so many obstacles. Don’t ever lose that silliness that drives me crazy some days. I love you! Mom
P.S. Just because you are 3 inches taller than me doesn’t mean that I can’t still ground you. HA!!
Happy 13th Birthday!
