Review: Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs: Diamond Edition Combo Pack

  • Google Buzz

The One2One Network sent me the Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs: Diamonds Edition Combo Pack movie set to review. We recently purchased a PS3 for our family room so that we could watch Blu-ray movies for our family movie nights. My husband can not just watch a movie, we have to watch it in Blu-ray because the quality of Blu-ray is far superior than anything else out there. I was a little skeptical at first, but he was right. There is nothing that compares to watching a movie in Blu-ray. The quality is much better than watching the movie in the movie theater.

The kids and I have all been really sick lately, so one afternoon we all hunkered down to watch our Snow White movie. The quality of the movie was outstanding. I was surprised at how good it looked. I expected it to be very grainy and fuzzy even though it was in Blu-ray since I had assumed it wasn’t filmed for Blu-ray back in 1937.

The DisneyView was an interesting feature. We have a wide-screen TV and the movie didn’t quite fit the screen so on either side of their movie there were additional borders added where there would otherwise have been just black screen. For most of the movie, we didn’t really notice it and we didn’t find it to distract from the movie in any way.

I found the additional bonus features to be really interesting (in some cases more interesting than the movie). I enjoyed the Backstage Disney tour and the audio commentary, however, my kids did not enjoy any of the bonus features. They just wanted to watch the movie.

We all know the story of Snow White, so there were no big surprises during the movie. We thoroughly enjoyed the high quality of the picture and the sound, however, my kids thought the movie was a bit slow in the middle. I had never seen the full version of the movie. Snow White has been unavailable in any form since 2001 and was recently released in Blu-ray on October 6. The DVD only version will be released on November 24.

The quality of the movie will astound any Disney movie fan. If you plan to purchase this movie, I definitely recommend purchasing the Blu-ray version. The combo pack comes with the DVD also so if you need to play it on a regular DVD player, you will have that option too. Blu-ray is simply a better way to watch a movie. The picture is much clearer and the sound is much better.

Disney will be releasing 14 of their most treasured animated classic titles in Blu-ray Diamond Editions through 2016.

I love Disney movies and would love to see just ONE in BlueRay :)

It just kills me that — as Dave Barry famously said — men can't see dirt until it's formed clumps large enough to support agriculture, but they can see the difference between Blu-Ray and non-Blu-Ray DVDs… :)

Actually, Dave Barry just made the agriculture remark, the Blu-Ray observation is mine… Don't want to misquote the grand old lion of humor writers.
